Description
Stand der TechnikState of the art
Both in new buildings and increasingly in existing buildings that are being modernized, external insulation is very important for energy reasons. While a homogeneous wall structure with integrated insulating effect is also possible in new buildings, in existing buildings the load-bearing walls, usually made of materials with good heat conduction and therefore limited insulating properties, must be energetically improved by additional insulation, preferably applied on the outside.
Composite systems (application of the insulating material on the outer wall with subsequent plastering) and also the application of an insulating layer, protected by an external border using panel-like cladding or formwork on a supporting structure, often referred to as a curtain wall, are common. An external closure that is separate from the insulation material offers several advantages. In addition to the possibility of easily separating the structural structure and reusing it in the spirit of a circular economy, these structures also offer reliable solutions in terms of building physics by separating the functions of weather protection and thermal insulation.
There are solutions for the structural design of curtain facades in such a way that a distance is formed between the load-bearing wall and the cladding using metallic profiles or plastic profiles, which forms the receiving space for the insulating material and a continuous air layer. The outer clothing can also be attached to these profiles.
The continuous air layer separates insulation and weather protection from each other. This ensures that the outer cladding is cooled in hot summers and the building itself does not heat up as much. Such a rear ventilation room is also useful for dehumidifying wooden cladding.

NachteileDisadvantages
There are often disadvantages associated with such constructions. In composite systems, tensions are to be expected between the outer skin and the insulation material, which often leads to separation. If composite solutions have to be replaced, material separation is uneconomical and the materials must be disposed of.
In the case of curtain facades, metallic materials or plastics are used for the spacers. Material-related thermal length changes are to be expected. The NV1 substructure from SFS is given as an example of such a product (https://de.sfs.com/vhf/nvelope/nv1).
The name NVELOPE given in the source is a registered trademark.
Additional design effort is required because sliding points have to be arranged. Increased, undesirable heat conduction occurs via the webs of the brackets, which leads to a deterioration in the insulation effect or makes further decoupling necessary. When used in summer, heat from the outer cladding is transferred into the building. Additional measures must be taken to secure the position of installed insulation, as the insulation should be easily removable and not glued to the outer wall.

The assembly structure consists of vertical (1)(8) and horizontal (2)(9) interlocking webs, preferably made of layered plywood. The webs are attached to the load-bearing wall (6) with wall brackets (5). The webs form compartments (7) to accommodate the thermal insulation (10). Dimensional accuracy is created by a distance-defining connection, with the horizontal and vertical webs having slot-shaped recesses contain measurements (4) which ensure the dimensional accuracy of the distances. In one variant, the horizontal webs (9) are held between the vertical profiles (8) by a plug connection.
The vertically arranged webs do not lie continuously against the wall (6). Thanks to recesses (3) arranged on the wall, these profiles only lie in a few places and can therefore be easily aligned. Unevenness in the wall only has a reduced effect. In addition, the potential thermal bridge between vertical bars and the wall is reduced.
The vertical bars made of wooden material have only a small influence on the heat permeability of the entire structure over their entire depth. Cover profiles (14)(15) can be attached to the webs, which carry cladding made of formwork profiles (11) or panels (17). These profiles are slightly wider than the webs and thus serve to secure the position of the insulation materials. Other forms of holders are also possible. In a very simple version, clothing profiles can be screwed directly onto the horizontal bars, if necessary with the insertion of a wind seal. To create a rear ventilation space (16) for formwork profiles (11) or panel cladding (17), the vertical webs can be made deeper (13), the horizontal webs (9) are then installed so that they recess and are inserted using a dowel-like connection. The vertical webs are provided with an attached cover profile (14). A horizontal cover profile (15) can be added to attach formwork profiles (11); the rear ventilation space (16) is retained.
The mounting system is suitable for all new building projects in which the intention is to combine the heat storage of a load-bearing external wall with lightweight thermal insulation. The construction is also well suited for renovation tasks in which an existing external wall with insufficient thermal insulation needs to be supplemented with an insulating layer.
