Mouth and nose coverings, medical face masks and particle-filtering half masks (hereinafter masks) are a means often used to prevent the spread of infections by binding and filtering aerosols and droplets escaping from the wearer. In particular, the spread of diseases that takes place via such aerosols or droplet infection can be reduced and contained in this way. The best example of this is the global corona pandemic, which has been causing major problems for society since the end of 2019.

PROBLEM

However, a major disadvantage of all conventional and commercially available masks is the limited adjustability to the facial contours of the wearer. This applies both to masks that can be adjusted using a flexible insert and to masks that are already given a certain contour during production. In all cases, there is always an opening in the area of the cheeks, nose and eye area, which means that exhaled air simply escapes in the direction of the eyes. This breathing air leaves the mask without penetrating the filter fabric and flows directly upwards, where it is quickly distributed in the room by the heat of the body and the prevailing convection. So this unfiltered air potentially leads to the spread of pathogens despite wearing a mask, but for eyeglass wearers it poses another problem - fogging of the glasses.

For people who wear glasses, wearing such a mouth and nose cover to protect against infection always causes the problem that the exhaled, moist air leads to the glasses fogging up. Depending on the environmental conditions, this effect occurs with varying degrees of severity, but it always leads to impaired vision for the person wearing the glasses. This can only be an unpleasant impairment, but it can also lead to dangerous situations, e.g. in traffic.

There are now some molded parts on the market, preferably made of foam or rubber-like materials, which can be placed on masks and thus also promise a remedy for glasses fogging up. However, these parts do not work at all or only very inadequately, since they cannot guarantee a complete seal.

SOLUTION / INVENTION

The invention is a flexible sealing element that can be mounted on commercially available masks using common methods (gluing, tacking, clamping, etc.), or can be part of a complete mask. This sealing element adapts to the contours of the wearer's face and reliably prevents air from escaping in the eye area and thus fogging up of the glasses.

This also reduces the escape of unfiltered breathing air, as the mask is generally better sealed against the contours of the face. There is therefore an increased exchange of air through the fabric or the filter material of the mask, which also increases the protection against infection for the user and the contact persons.

The invention consists of a flexible sealing element that can be easily attached to all commercially available masks (FFP2, surgical masks, everyday masks, etc.) and adapts to the facial contours of the wearer. This results in a perfect seal in the nose, cheeks and eyes area.
