Description
The invention relates to the extension of the usability of the intraocular lens currently on the market.
The intraocular lens is processed by tinting and prism so that they are perceived as a relief in everyday life for macular degeneration / AMD patients. As a result, after the implantation of the AMD lens, it is possible to dispense with further spectacles / lenses, which are available for macular patients.
Stand der Technik:State of the art:
Intraokularlinseintraocular lens
There are already artificial intraocular lenses of polymer or similar material, which are used for example in cataract OP's.
These are usually used in the diseases Cataracta nuclearis, Cataracta corticalis, Cataracta subcapsularis posterior, or Cataracta corticonuclearis.
This method has been known for several years and is successfully implemented.
Neuerung:Innovation:
The innovation concerns an intraocular lens which is helpful in macular degeneration. The most common form is senile or age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Due to the changed age structure, the proportion of affected people has increased significantly. AMD is the leading cause of blindness in over 50s in developed countries. It causes 32% of new blindness, followed by glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, 16% each. Worldwide, 25 to 30 million people are affected by this, and around 500,000 new cases are reported annually. In Germany, an estimated two million people suffer from macular degeneration, and around 125,000 people in Austria.
However, much less common are congenital and juvenile forms of macular degeneration, eg. For example, hypotrichosis with juvenile macular dystrophy.
With the innovation of this intraocular lens, it is now possible to make patients with macular degeneration more contoured and more contrasty, so that they reach a higher visual acuity. However, this depends on the progress / course of the disease.
The AMD AMD Intraocular Lens for Macular Degeneration AMD features an edge filter with a wavelength characteristic of 400-450 nm and a prism aligned to direct the light to the intact periphery of the retina. Retina) and pigment epithelium has the property not only at the point of the optic nerve (optic nerve) to have the ganglion cells of the retina or retinal ganglion cells.
The special edge filter (yellow tone) with a wavelength characteristic of 400-450 nm, causes a reduction in the blue components in visible light to a significant degree and reduces disturbing stray light. Because short-wave rays are particularly high-scattered, they can superimpose the image on the retina, causing glare and poor contrast vision. These glare disturb people who are suffering from macular degeneration and often try to reduce it with conventional sunglasses. However, this is counterproductive because the dark tint also leads to poor vision.
The variant to use lenses with a "yellow tone" (wavelength characteristic of 400-450 nm) together with a prism in conventional glasses is widely known, but not yet in an intraocular lens.
This innovation thus offers advantages u. a. in terms of weight savings (lenses with prisms are naturally thicker and thus heavier than conventional ones), in twilight vision, by enlarging the field of view, higher aesthetic values (since no yellow glasses on the face) and much more.
After research at the DPMA, there is nothing comparable, so this invention is to be regarded as new.
Further features can be found in the following description and enclosed drawings / sketches.
