Transplanted in pot-like containers flowers and herbs in particular are often placed in the range of window sills or in front of balcony or patio doors to expose the corresponding plants to sunlight. The available floor space is limited by the width of the window and the occupied by the containers footprint is no longer available for other items. The holding device according to the invention comprises a tensionable cable construction, which can be attached to a window sash or the like (balcony or terrace door), preferably non-destructive. The container is preferably made of a water-impermeable material, suitably a plastic material, and is used to hold plants or herbs.
