Abstract

Description

The present invention relates to a therapeutic exercise device comprising a planar base member with two mounted thereon, parallel to the plane of the base member extending guide rails and along these guide rails slidable handles.

Exercise machines of the generic type are used for training arm and shoulder, for example. of stroke patients, neurological patients with paralysis in the shoulder-arm area or similar applications.

Exercise devices of the aforementioned kind are known per se and, generally speaking, serve a goal-oriented therapy for disorders of the motor, sensory and cognitive abilities of an affected patient.

In the previously known exercise devices of the aforementioned type, which are known both as stationary devices in clinics or the like as mobile devices for home visits, due to the hitherto conventional designs, exercises only to a limited extent possible, in particular, allow the known devices almost exclusively Exercises in which the patient can grasp the handles and then move his arms along the guide rails.

If the treatment of a patient requires deviating movements, so far differently designed devices are used, so that for almost every single exercise a special exercise device is needed.

The present invention has for its object to make an exercise device of the generic type in a simple manner so that hereby a variety of different exercises can be performed.

This object is achieved in that the guide rails have at one of its ends in the direction of the base element angled bearing pins which engage in corresponding bearing bushes of the base member and allow pivoting of the guide rails about the axes of the journals.

This comparatively simple construction makes it possible for a patient, after grasping the handles, not only to move the latter back and forth in the longitudinal direction of the guide rail, but also to pivot the guide rails to the left and to the right in pivoting movements, whereby at the same time the possibility exists Move handles along the guide rails forward and backward. Thus, a very complex additional exercise option is given, which is achieved solely because of the simplified construction of the exercise device.
