Entweder fehlt eine Hausnummer ganz oder es existiert keine Beleuchtung, oder die Hausnummern sind z. B. durch Bewuchs verdeckt. Jede Minute Verlust bis zum ein treffen am Notfallort bedeutet ein Absinken der Überlebensrate um 10%. Es ist also äußerst wichtig und vorteilhaft, eine effektive und gut sichtbare Hausnummernmarkierung und Beleuchtung als Leitbeleuchtung für das Rettungspersonal bereit zu stellen. In den entsprechenden Foren der Hilfsorganisationen wird umfangreich auf die Missstände und die daraus resultieren Nachteile hingewiesen.
