Da die auf dem Markt erhältlichen Abdeckplanen keine für einen solchen Zweck nutzbare Größe aufweisen, hängt die Abdeckplane meist vorne und hinten um ein nicht unbeträchtliches Maß herab, was die Durchlüftung und damit die Trocknung des Holzstoßes beeinträchtigt. Vielfach wird auch eine zu breite Abdeckplane an ihren Seiten eingeschlagen und zwischen den Holzscheiten festgeklemmt. Dies wirkt sich allerdings ebenfalls auf die Trocknung des Holzes nachteilig aus. Darüber hinaus besteht bei einer derartigen Abdeckung eines Holzststoßes immer die Gefahr, dass es bei Sturm, insbesondere bei starken Windböen zu Beschädigungen und Verwehungen der Abdeckplane kommen kann.
