Um immer anspruchsvollere wirtschaftliche und umweltbezogene Anforderungen zu erfüllen, werden bei Fahrzeugen in zunehmende Maße alternative Treibstoffen eingesetzt. Unter den zur Verfügung stehenden alternativen Treibstoffen hat CNG (compressed natural gas) in den letzten Jahren sehr an Bedeutung gewonnen. Für die Speicherung von CNG in Fahrzeugen werden Speicherbehälter benötigt, welche gleichzeitig hohe Druckfestigkeit und geringes Gewicht haben sollten. Um diese Anforderungen zu erfüllen, werden CNG-Speicherbehälter derzeit aus Stahl oder Aluminiumlegierungen gefertigt. Aus Stahl hergestellte CNG-Speicherbehälter haben zwar eine hohe Druckfestigkeit, besitzen aber auch sehr hohes Gewicht, was der Leichtbauweise moderner Fahrzeuge zuwiderläuft. CNG-Speicherbehälter aus Aluminium werden bislang durch Umformen, z. B. Spinning, hergestellt, um Schweißnähte zu vermeiden und dadurch höhere Druckfestigkeit zu erzielen. Diese Fertigungsweise ist jedoch nur mit gut verformbaren Aluminiumlegierungen möglich, z. B. Legierungen der Gruppen 5xxx und 6xxx nach
