Die Verwendung von Winkelprofilen im Metall- und Möbelbau ist bekannt. Für die Herstellung solcher Hohlkasten- und/oder Doppel-T-Profile wird jedoch viel Stahl verbraucht. Die Profile müssen verzinkt und/oder mit Rostschutzfarbe gestrichen werden. Der Transport der Profile ist wegen ihrer Größe und ihres Gewichts aufwändig. Gleiches gilt für die Montage, bei der Kräne und Gerüste gebraucht werden und gebohrt sowie geschweisst werden muss; Montageschäden müssen ggf. aufwändig nachbehandelt werden. Dazu müssen die Profile, damit sie die notwendige Zug-, Druck- und Biegetragfähigkeit erreichen, im Verbund miteinander montiert werden. Ein solcher tragfähiger Verbundquerschnitt wird durch eine besondere kreuzförmige Verbindung der Profile erreicht. Die statischen Eigenschaften des Verbunds im einzelnen hängen dabei von der Ausführung der Profile, des kreuzförmigen Verbindungsmittels und der Art und Weise ihrer Montage ab. Im Ergebnis erreichen die Profile im Verbund die statische Belastbarkeit von Hohlkasten- und/oder Doppel-T-Profilen. Weil die Profile weniger Stahl brauchen, als Hohlkasten- und/oder Doppel-T-Profile, sind sie sehr viel preiswerter herzustellen, bzw. einzukaufen. Der Transport ist weniger aufwändig. Für die Montage braucht es keinen Kran und kein Gerüst und auch kein Bohren und Schweissen. Stattdessen sind Schrauben, Nieten oder vergleichbare Befestigungstechniken völlig ausreichend. Das Risiko von Montageschäden ist gering. Aufgrund der Einsparungen durch Material und Arbeitsweise können Profile aus Edelstahl und/oder Aluminium genommen werden, die nicht verzinkt und/oder mit Rostschutzfarbe gestrichen werden müssen. Das bessere Material und die leichtere Konstruktion sind auch besonderen architektonischen Anforderungen gewachsen. Gleiches gilt für die vielfältigen Verbindungs-, Verlängerungs- und Anschlussmöglichkeiten. Die Montage kann ggf. durch ungeübte Handwerkern und Laien in einem Baukastensystem erfolgen.
