Multiple packaging for drinks, if disposable, is nowadays increasingly being repackaged by wrapping a film around the individual drinks packs and holding the individual drinks packs together (wrap-around technique). Plastic bottles in particular, especially those made of PET, but also flexible cardboard packaging in aseptic applications, are wrapped in film and thus repackaged. In a second step, a handle made of tear-resistant plastic is applied to the middle of the repackaged container to offer consumers convenient handling of the goods (often called a "six-pack" for bottles in packs of 6).

Today, the handle is made of a high-strength plastic or a composite of plastic and another material. Its sole function is to carry the bottles or drinks containers and has no other use.

The increasing use of disposable packaging for drinks is a result of the great advances in the filling of bottles, especially in plastic, and the convenience of shopping itself. Unlike the drinks crate, the existing disposable multiple drinks packaging lacks a suitable collection container that would make it possible to collect the bottles once they have been purchased separately when empty or to transfer them to a suitable deposit system.

This means that the multiple disposable container already contains the necessary components for the later return of the empty packaging or empty bottles. The most technically and materially advantageous solution is to attach a return bag directly as a handle, i.e. to integrate it directly into the handle. The cover film itself cannot be used for this, as it is inevitably damaged when the individual bottles or individual packaging are removed from the multiple container. The handle itself remains practically intact, apart from a load that must be taken into account when handling it by the consumer. The bag integrated into the handle ("bag handle") can also be changed in color as desired, depending on the material used for packaging the drinks.

If you look at the overall ecological effect, the bag handle extends the system path of plastic disposable drinks packaging to recycling and ultimately to deposits. In relation to the container itself, the advantage is that the container with the bag handle is already prepared for the return of the bottles from the outset. Through its prominent placement on the packaging, the container signals its new return purpose. The possibility of different colors for the bags depending on the material used for the packaging itself also allows differentiated material cycles to be set up, which further improves the use of scarce raw materials.
