Abstract

Threaded bars can be cut to length without obligatory post-machining of the thread-way, using a recess in the shear-off arm (1) for the initial addressing movement in the first stage followed by cut completion in the second stage. The cutters (14) are exchangeable in the tongs which can handle a wide range of thread sizes and minimise the manual force required for the lengthening due to the use of cylindrical positioning pins (B) and the recess provided in the pressure arm (3). The pressure arm (3) is moved away from arm (1) so pin (B) sets to position (E) with the tongs thus opening as underside (2) moves right. The tongs are placed at cut point (D) so when the arm (3) is pressed onto arm (1) the cutters (14) are addressed in front of the thread and so, as slide (2) runs back onto its stop screws, the tongs are pre-tensioned and clamped in place. Pin (B) moves to position (A) so that repeat pressing of the arms performs the lengthening operation.
