Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a radio clock according to the preamble of claim 1.
It should make it possible with the help of a time signal transmitter that is at an unknown distance and possibly in a different time zone, along with knowledge of the approximate Local time to determine an exact local time and display it. Here, the Knowledge of time zones is not required.
US Patent Nr. 5,077,706.It is known to receive a time signal transmitter to determine the exact local time, which broadcasts the local time, e.g. B. the transmitter DCF 77 for the Central European time. If you leave this time zone and there is no time signal transmitter in the country concerned, or the station for the associated time zone is not available, you can, how known to suppress the receipt of the non-competent time signal transmitter and the Let the radio clock run as a normal quartz clock. Manual setting means are known with which you can enter any time. Radio clocks are also known at which you can change the radio clock time of the left time zone by manually switching the Can adjust the hour display to the respective time zones (without their own time signal transmitter), see U.S. Patent No. 5,077,706.
B. in Europa: Finnland, Island, Griechenland, usw.). It is necessary to have a knowledge of the geographical location and / or the has respective time zones, see e.g. B. U.S. Patent No. 5,068,838, which is sometimes self-reported Exploitation of satellite systems is not possible because e.g. B. the signals from the satellite cannot be received or because even when the location is known, time often zone boundaries are defined according to political considerations (e.g. in Europe: Finland, Iceland, Greece, etc.). The receipt of an irresponsible time signal transmitter would result in the wrong local time being displayed. You can escape this difficulty not even if you would use special satellites, as in DE 43 13 945 A1 was proposed. So in many cases there is nothing left but the precision of one To do without radio time and to operate the clocks as normal quartz clocks. After a few The exact radio time will have been lost weeks and months ago, what with one Battery replacement can also be the case immediately.
It is also known to automatically set the local time to the required reference to automatically and adaptively create a known location by using appropriate ones Exploits signals from a mobile radio system, see US Patent 5,258,964. This method needs a wide variety of local transmitters with short range, which one can only assume in certain countries of the world which channels also have high Frequencies are operated and therefore lead to receivers with high power requirements.
Also known are certain time-controlled electronic clocks, which at Commissioning depend on the knowledge of the approximate local time. The regulation in their instructions for use it says that the analog display on before starting up the immediately preceding full hour is to be set, which means that the The hour hand is manually set to the hour mark in question so that the Minute hand is at 12 at the same time. From the time information received then only used the number of minutes to convert them into as many impulses as the The minute hand then moves forward sequentially by as many minute steps. The happens automatically, the watch owner usually knows nothing about it. Advantage of this Method is to use the simplest and cheapest quartz movements on the market can be. The disadvantage is that there is often an incorrect time display, which is not automatically recognizable because no electronic controls of the Pointers are present. The automatically correct radio clocks of others This is because manufacturers have special pointer position sensors that make them relatively expensive. The reason that the layperson has the cheap, not automatically correcting radio clocks, d. H. wrongly sets the "so-called radio clocks" so often is that it reads the local time of conventional watches that can go extremely imprecise. Relatively small Minute errors can then easily become whole hour errors. The following example shows this: The conventional kitchen alarm clock shows the time 13.07. He goes for example at 15 minutes before (it is actually 12.52 p.m.), but what you do do not know. You set the "so-called radio clock" to 1:00 p.m. according to the regulations Step switch receives 52 minute impulses from the without being informed Radio clock receiver and the "radio clock", which should always indicate the correct time, shows us now 1:52 p.m. It goes wrong for exactly one hour. That's the reason why This method has so far not been so much appreciated by watch lovers on the market and is practically only found on the cheapest radio controlled watches. It will in the following show that these "so-called radio clocks" also provide a reliable time display can be brought by the received difference times (minutes) before the Setting process only displays. Then you have a few simple rules for manual hour setting.
The invention has for its object the precise radio times far away To use long-wave time signal transmitter, the time zone membership u. U. is unknown (or that of the place where you are), and yet a correspondingly accurate one Gain and display local time.
This object is achieved by the characterizing features of claim 1. Further refinements of the invention are described in the subclaims.
The advantages that can be achieved with the invention can be seen primarily in the fact that also in Time zones without their own time signal transmitter do not miss an exact radio clock time got to. You would get by with just a few long-wave transmitters worldwide. For a so-called "World radio clock" would only need extremely sensitive receivers, which one but can build today. There would also be advantages in the Border areas between two time signal transmitters, whereby regardless of the Time zone membership can set the strongest reception of time signals. On An example would be the east coast of the USA, where u. U. the English time signal transmitter better can receive as the American time signal transmitter.
Another advantage for many users of such radio clocks would be that need not have knowledge of time zones and their exact course. That encourages Certainly the acceptance of radio clocks also in countries where you have not yet been able to find them Mass deployment thought.
There are various options for setting the approximate local time by hand. It seems simplest to set the available local time from quartz clocks as well as possible with the radio clock according to the invention. Then the radio-accurate correct determination of the local time should be possible if the approximate local time entered is within a range of a little less than plus / minus half an hour by the correct exact time. In any case, the correct hour can then be determined by forming the difference between the received time signals and the approximate local time. Let us take the following example: Exact local time = 3:05 p.m., approximate local time = 2:40 p.m. read from a conventional clock, radio time received = 4:05 p.m. In the limit case, the uncertainty range is 14.40 + 30 min with the limit values 15.10 and 14.10. Here the number of hours 15 is in the area of uncertainty. It is used as the basis for difference formation. There is an hour difference between 3:00 p.m. local time and 4:00 p.m. hour sign time. The received radio clock time is therefore corrected with the difference of one hour to the local value of 15.00 . The next smaller time units in the radio clock time (minutes) are adopted unchanged and displayed. That then gives the correct local time of 15.05.
Is it a radio clock that only moves in a time zone, e.g. B. only within Spain, it is advantageous to do the difference formation only once, e.g. B. after inserting the batteries for the first time or pressing an appropriate one Adjustment knob, and the result is then stored in a digital memory save. When using this storage result, the radio clock then behaves like an ordinary radio clock in the area of a "virtual" Time zone transmitter.
The measures described can be done with the help of digital processing circuits let it run automatically. But you can also use a semi-automatic mode realize such that z. B. the difference between the two times is displayed first and that then you set the correct time difference manually. Given the already available Radio clocks with an hourly manual advance would make such an arrangement may be particularly inexpensive.
