"Expansion tank for venting the cooling water circuit
of internal combustion engines, in particular of motor vehicles "The invention relates to
the arrangement and design of expansion tanks for venting the cooling water circuit
of internal combustion engines, in particular of motor vehicles, with the expansion tank
designed as an independent container and on the cooling water manifold of the engine
are attached.
Expansion tank in the cooling water circuit of internal combustion engines
serve as a result of the expansion of the cooling water when the engine is running
to create the required volume and in particular the separation of the cooling water
to ensure contained air. Such expansion tanks, which are mostly on
the highest point of the engine in the cooling water circuit are known.
In many cases the expansion tanks are directly part of the upper one
Water tank of the cooler formed.
in Motornähe anzuordnen.
However, such an arrangement has the disadvantage that the space available at these points - either above the radiator or above the engine itself - is very limited. Because of the hoods that are usually located directly above the engine and because of efforts to keep the overall height as low as possible, these known arrangements of the expansion tank above the radiator have the serious disadvantage that construction space is required in a costly manner only to accommodate the expansion tanks got to.
The invention has set itself the task of avoiding these disadvantages and, in the course of a compact design of the engine system, of arranging the expansion tank in the immediate vicinity of the engine. Provision is therefore made for the expansion tank to be arranged on the cooling water collecting line at the engine outlet, the bypass line being connected in parallel to the cooling water flow. There is always an installation option on the cooling water collecting line for attaching an expansion tank in the required dimensions, even in confined spaces. There is also the advantage that the expansion tank can be attached to the cooling water collecting line in a simple manner with clamps or known connecting means. Furthermore, no special sprues or nozzles are required for connecting the expansion tank or the bypass line. Such an arrangement also has the advantage that the expansion tank sits directly on the engine and can be completed with the engine in one unit.

vorteilhaft. The attachment of the expansion tank at the rear end of the cooling water collecting line has proven to be particularly advantageous, because here the cooling water speed is usually lower than at the front end, which results in higher static pressures and the air bubbles escaping with the cooling water without being diverted horizontally in the cooling water collecting line,

Here it separates from the cooling water that has passed through the bore and collects in the expansion tank of the safety valve. This in water that has passed into the expansion tank is

The bypass line is fed directly to the cooling water pump and thus to the cooling water circuit via the shortest possible route. The arrangement of the expansion tank on the cooling water collecting line is also advantageous with regard to the bypass line leading to the cooling water pump.

This arrangement ventilates the cooling water circuit and air-free cooling water is achieved after a short time. After the air has been eliminated and restarted from the cold state, no new air enters the cooling water circuit. This arrangement also has the advantage that effective venting begins even in short-circuit operation of the motor. The invention is shown schematically in the figures below: Fig. 1 shows an engine with a cooling water circuit and an output equalizing tank at the rear end of the cooling water collecting line,

Ent-
weichen der eingeschlossenen Luft geöffnet wird. Ferner ist oberhalb des Wasserspiegels
das Über-und Unterdruckventil 12 angebracht. In Fig. 1, 1 represents the upper water tank of the radiator 2, on which an expansion tank of the old design is shown soldered in dashed lines in the drawing. 3 shows the line to the water pump 13, which is attached to the engine 6, the cooling water enters the collecting line 7 from the motor outlets 8. The expansion tank 9 is attached to this cooling water collecting line 7 and is connected to the pump 13 through the bypass line 10 and is connected in parallel with the flow of cooling water. Through the small hole at the bottom of the expansion tank, the cooling water enters the expansion tank at a considerable speed and fills this tank up to level 18. The volume 17 of the tank is kept so large that by the Ausdeoung of the tank a sufficiently high water level compared to the Drain line 1o is available. Above the water level
the vent valve 16 is attached, which is used for venting when filling
the trapped air is opened. Furthermore, the overpressure and underpressure valve 12 is attached above the water level.
The cooling water is filled into the cooling water filler neck in a known manner
14, which is closed with the fixed screw cap 15.
