Um Webwaren wasserdicht zu mächen, hat man sie bereits durch ein Seifenbad genommen, nachdem sie mit wasserabdichtenden Körpern, z. B. auch Gummi imprägniert waren; auch hat man das Seifenbad dazu verwendet, um Kautschuk zu lösen (vergl. Koller, Imprägnierungs-Technik 1896, S. 96, Zeile 7 bis 11 von unten). Auf diesen bekannten Wirkungen des Seifenbades dem Kautschuk gegenüber fußt nun das nachbeschriebene Verfahren, welches hier dazu dient, Wirkwaren, die eine Lederimitation darstellen und, wie bekannt, aus zwei mittels Guttapercha verbundenen Waren bestehen, geschmeidig zu machen und ihnen einen weichen Griff zu verleihen. Zu diesem Zweck wird die Ware zunächst wie bekannt hergestellt, dann aber durch ein Seifen- oder ähnliches Bad genommen, bis sie sich vollgesaugt hat. Nach dem Trocknen ist dann die Ware sehr weich.
