Fotoelektrischc Halbleiterkristallanordnung, insbesondere Solarelement

Solar elements are known to use a thin one. disc shaped, relatively large-area semiconductor crystal with
pn junction, e.g. B. made of silicon or gallium arsenide, which
vvird arranged directly behind the light window of the housing.
The housing is usually potted with plastic so that

Housing is supported.
L an-
in bekannter Weise solche Füll-

In the interests of the mechanical stability of the arrangement, it is desirable to use a metal housing which is provided with the light opening on one side, while L an-
there is a second opening on the opposite side.
is the one through which the electrical leads are led to the outside and the plastic is poured in. However, the use of a metallic housing leads, since the plastic filled into the housing at the same time closes the housing and therefore a mechanically resistant plastic must be used, to the occurrence of considerable stresses, since plastics with sufficient mechanical resistance shrink strongly and also a considerable amount .-Lich have a thermal expansion capacity greater than that of the metallic housing and the semiconductor. Since the semiconductor crystal is embedded in the plastic by pouring the housing and the plastic in the housing has a relatively small free surface, the mechanical stresses cannot balance each other and, as is often observed, the crystal breaks, especially if it is is about thin, large-area semiconductor wafers instead. Although you can the plastic in a known manner such filling 3 ', C), - fe zuse'
suspend substances that reduce shrinkage and thermal expansion
Reduce the expansion coefficient of the plastic. However, other mechanical properties of the plastic suffer from this, in particular its machinability, apart from the fact that it affects them. It is not possible to suppress the mechanical stress on the semiconductor crystal to the required extent as a result of the hardening of the plastic or the strong temperature change that frequently occurs during the operation of such an arrangement.

Through the closure made of plastic, the grains of the insulating powder are pressed against the semiconductor crystal under gentle pressure. Since they completely fill the space available to them, the powder grains are able to hold the semiconductor crystal together with the housing, in particular the edge of the viewing window, in a stable manner: 'The air remaining between the individual grains' acts as a cushion and is capable Forces that can occur as a result of the shrinkage of the plastic closure and also at high temperature changes during operation of the arrangement, to compensate and dampen the effect of these forces on the semiconductor crystal so that breaking of the crystal is excluded. In the figure is a solar element according to the proposal of the innovation, for example. The metal, z. B.

Immediately behind it is the disk-shaped half-iciter crystal 3, e.g. B. made of n- or p-conductive silicon, on 'whose surfaces a corresponding activator material diffusing in a zone 3a of the opposite conductivity type is produced, which zone 3a is contacted by an electrode 4b. The zone 3b, which has remained unaffected by the diffusion process and which forms the core of the semiconductor crystal, is contacted by the electrode 4a. For this reason, the zone 3b was previously etched off at the location of the electrode 4a. Both electrodes 4a and 4b are connected to leads 5a, 5b through which the second opening on the rear of the housing ses final plastic closure 6 are passed. '

be-. einträchtigen können.

It is therefore useful if the radiation-permeable plastic layer 2 is cast onto the crystal 3 and the edge of the light window of the housing 1. As a result, the entire front side of the semiconductor crystal3 2 is covered with a resistant and therefore strongly shrinking plastic when it hardens. However, since this is a relatively thin plastic layer that covers the crystal only on one side and has a large free surface, there is no risk of strong mechanical stress on the crystal either during the hardening of the plastic or during operation. In addition, the crystal can be made transparent beforehand with a thin layer of a radiation-permeable material elastic casting resin, e.g. B. an epoxy resin, which in the hardened

and in this way achieve a further cushion of the crystal against mechanical loads. Likewise, the pressure of the plastic closure 6 on the powder 7 can be reduced if another layer 8 of a soft plastic, e.g. B. made of polyisobutylene, is provided. The closure 6 is made of a resistant plastic, for. B. made of araldite or an epoxy resin. The pouring of the semiconductor crystal 3 covering through-
visible plastic layers is made much easier, though

The poured-on liquid plastic compound, which forms the plastic layer 2 after solidification, is then held by the protruding edge of the housing and the crystal housing and solidifies with the formation of a spherical cap. The potting of the light window can then take place after the rest of the arrangement has already been fully assembled, ie the insulating powder has been introduced into the housing and the second opening in the housing is made of plastic J
