Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum kontinuierlichen Mahlen und Dispergieren von Feststoffen in Flüssigkeiten mittels Rührwerksmühlen. Sie besteht darin, daß die Trennung der kleinen abgerundeten Mahlkörper vom Mahlgut und dem kontinuierlich durch die Mühle von unten nach oben strömenden Dispersionsmittels durch eine im wesentlichen oben in der Rührwerksmühle angeordnetes waagrechtes Sieb entmischt werden, dergestalt, daß das Dispersionsmittel ungehindert abfließen kann, während die Mahlkörper kontinuierlich in einem Fluß in Richtung der Innenseite des Mahlbehälters gelenkt werden.The invention relates to a method for continuously grinding and dispersing solids in liquids by means of agitator mills. Diese Betriebsweise eignet sich besonders für solche Rührwerksmühlen zum kontinuierlichen Mahlen und Dispergieren von Feststoffen in Flüssigkeiten, die aus einem zylindrischen aufrechtstehenden mit Mahlkörpern gefüllten Behälter, in dem ein Rührwerk umläuft, wobei das flüssige Behandlungsgut dem Mahlbehälter von unten zugeführt und oben durch eine unterhalb einer seitlichen Ausflußöffnung angeordnetes flaches Kreissieb unter Zurückhaltung der Mahlkörper abgeführt wird, wobei der Innenrand dieses Kreissiebes mit der Rührwerkswelle einen Ringspalte bildet, dessen Weite etwa der dreifachen Größe der Mahlkörper entspricht und wobei unterhalb des Siebes in geringem etwa der dreifachen Mahlkörpergröße entsprechenden axialen Abstand rotierende Ablenkscheibe an der Rührwerkswelle befestigt ist. Die Ablenkscheibe kann kreisförmig sein und ihr Durchmesser etwa dem Durchmesser des Kreissiebes entsprechen. Der Durchmesser des Mahlbehälters kann im Bereich der Ablenkscheibe verbreitert sein, diese kann ebenflächig sein, es kann aber auch der Außenrand der Ablenkscheibe nach unten gewölbt sein. Sie kann als Taumelscheibe, also schräg auf der Rührwerkswelle,befestigt sein. Eine Schwierigkeit bei dem Betrieb solcher Mühlen ergibt sich vor allem auch dadurch, daß eine zufriedenstellende Vorsorge für die Abtrennung der Mahlkörper aus der Enddispersion bislang in der Technik nicht in zufriedenstellendem Maße getroffen worden ist. Es sind Arbeitsweisen bekannt, die sich Siebe bedienen, die sich vom oberen Ende der Außenwand der Mühle aufwärts erstrecken. Da die Höhe der mit dem Sieb in Berührung stehenden Flüssigkeit variiert und ein Teil des Siebes leicht unbedeckt bleiben kann, trocknet eine Flüssigkeit, wie z.B. ein Lack oder dergleichen unter Umständen auf solchen Sieben ein, bildet darauf einen Film mit der Folge, die Öffnungen des Siebes zu verschließen. Bei Verwendung verhältnismäßig großer Mahlkörper werden waagrechte Siebe mehr oder weniger zufriedenstellend in der Technik benutzt.
