Scheinwerfer für Wechselstrom. Patentiert im Deutschen Reiche vom 5. Februar 1904 ab. AC headlights. Patented in the German Empire on February 5 , 1904.
Electric headlights have so far been operated almost without exception Direct current is used because the alternating current arc has some properties, which make it appear less suitable for headlight purposes (cf. "Headlights and remote lighting", 1899, p. 407). However, if for special reasons alternating current is used, headlights for direct current must generally be used usual arrangement of a single parabolic mirror can be abandoned, as the light emission in the latter case, about 85 percent comes from the positive carbon and thus the largest part of the light output can be combined in a parabolic reflector, while the alternating current arc, light, the light emission is distributed approximately evenly on both coals. With consideration thereupon mirror arrangements for headlights operated with alternating current are proposed which are based on the interaction of parabolic mirror rings and plane mirror rings (cf. e.g. German patent specification 142413); however, the same have the disadvantage that by double reflection of the light rays emitted by one crater on the other Coal leads to a great loss in the light output and that the utilization the light curves of the alternating current arc is unfavorable.
The after-described mirror arrangement for headlights operated with alternating current is based on the best possible utilization of the characteristic of the alternating current arc Light diagram and results from the fact that only simple reflection is used, lower light losses, i. i. an increased Light output.
As can be seen from Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawings, the new headlight device consists of two parabolic mirror rings a and b of different focal lengths and an alternating current lamp c, the light point of which coincides spatially with the common focal point of the two mirrors α and b . The two mirrors are arranged taking into account the dotted light diagram so that the mirror α reflects the majority of the light emitted from the crater of the coal e , and in the same way the mirror b reflects the light rays emanating from the crater of the coal /. The rays reflected by the two mirrors emerge in bundles that are parallel to each other, so their effects add up.
In Fig. 2 ist eine derartige Anordnung skizziert, und zwar stellt der untere Teil denThe new headlight device is particularly advantageous in its use for illuminating fountains or similar water arts, in which the light rays are vertical or diagonally upwards should be reflected. As in this case lamps with completely or almost vertical Arranged coals can be used is a precipitation of the ascending Arc vapors avoided on the reflector surfaces, so that the mirror is permanent remain in a safe condition. In Fig. 2 is such an arrangement sketched, namely the lower part represents the
