Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
The invention consists in a method, from wood tar an almost odorless, the skin To obtain a non-coloring, neither irritating nor toxic-acting preparation, which one the special healing effects of tar are still inherent to a greater extent. The procedure consists in treating the wood tar with aldehydes, especially formaldehyde in the presence of condensation agents, such as hydrochloric acid, sulphurous acid, sulfuric acid and others. If you mix wood tar with 40 percent formaldehyde and allows condensation agents, such as hydrochloric acid or sulphurous acid, on the mixture and others, acting, a resinous, dark body separates out of the mixture from which in alcohol, ether, hot benzene, chloroform, acetone, methyl alcohol, Caustic alkalis, glacial acetic acid is soluble. This resin is still present from the small amount black-brown liquid separated, repeatedly boiled with soda solution, finally dissolved in sodium hydroxide solution and precipitated again by dilute acids. The latter method is repeated a few times until the preparation has taken on a light brown color and only appears slightly yellow in color.
Regarding the yield of pure dry reaction product on treatment of wood tar with formaldehyde and a condensing agent, it should be noted that depending on the used Types of tar changes the amount of pure product finally obtained; the wood tar is used in the form as it is generally used for medical purposes. The by dry distillation Wood tar obtained from different woods separates into one when standing oily, syrupy and in a thick layer, the granular crystalline precipitates shows. For the purposes of practicing this method, the top layer is preferable, which can be simply poured or poured also by drawing off in decanting vessels, possibly also by filtering off by means of Nutsch filter can be obtained with the help of the air pump.
The cleaning is not essential, since it only depends on the wood tar to be used in the form in which it is generally used for medical purposes. Tests have shown that 100 parts of the wood tar of various origins that are used in this way Provide 45 to 60 parts of pure, dry, almost odorless reaction product.
It is now known that from individual components of the wood tar, especially from made the phenols and cresols, condensation products with formaldehyde. The novelty of the invention is that not only these parts, which only make up about 5 percent of the wood tar, but almost all of its components participate in the reaction. This is easily possible from the amount of the above achieved yield.
Beispiel: 108 g Holzteer, durch Abgießen und Filtrieren von den festen Beimengungen befreit, werden mit 75 g 40 prozentigerExample: 108 g wood tar, by pouring off and filtering the solid additions freed, become 40 percent more with 75 g

Formaldehyde solution mixed and the action of a condensing agent such as Hydrochloric acid, sulphurous acid or sulfuric acid. Separates from the liquid A resin-like, viscous mass soon forms, which agglomerates into a solid lump and weighs about 150 grams. This is due to the small amount black-brown liquid separated, repeatedly boiled with soda solution, then in sodium hydroxide solution dissolved and from the resulting dark black-brown colored clear solution reprecipitated with dilute acids. The excreted mass is carefully washed out, pressed and dried and forms a light, spongy powder of slightly yellow-brown in color, which is insoluble in water, but in high-proof alcohol is easily soluble. It has the medicinal effects of tar without its unpleasant ones Show side effects and is said to be used in a manner similar to tar itself will.
