Bei der Gewinnung von Rohkupfer aus schwefelhaltigen Kupfererzen und aus Kupfersteinen, welche wenig oder gar keine Kieselsäure enthalten, durch Einwirkung von Wind auf das schmelzflüssige Rohgut in Gegenwart basischer Körper, wie dies bei dem durch das Patent 153820 geschützten Verfahren geschieht, wird das vorhandene Eisen in Form einer leichtflüssigen, sich leicht einerseits von der Schlacke, andererseits von dem Rohmetall abtrennenden Verbindung von Schwefeleisen und Eisenoxyd erhalten. Es hat sich nun gezeigt, daß diese Verbindung im Schmelzofen als basisches Flußmittel zur Verschlackung der aus der Gangart des Erzes herrührenden Kieselsäure Verwendung finden kann.
