Optical borate glass according to claim 1, characterized in that the base glass additionally contains up to 10 percent by weight of Al 2 O 3 and / or up to 5 percent by weight of ZrO 2 as a stabilizing component that changes the refractive index and dispersion.
Optical borate glass according to claim 1 and 2, characterized in that the melting charge contains an addition of up to 2 percent by weight As 2 O 3 and / or NH 4 NO 3 as a refining agent.
The invention relates to optical borate glasses with refractive indices between 1.72 and 1.81 and Abbe Numbers between 30 and 45.
For the development of modern optical lens systems, in addition to glasses with a high refractive index with the lowest possible dispersion in combination with these, it is also preferred to use glass types which have a medium or low Abbe factor with the same refraction. In this area of the n d -v d diagram, there are so far only a few technically usable glasses. The known glasses in this area are, on the one hand, lead borosilicate glasses containing alkaline earth oxide and, on the other hand, borate or phosphate glasses with a high content of lead oxide. In the case of glasses containing SiO 2 , melting difficulties cannot be avoided due to the large differences in melting point of the batch components. In addition, essentially only higher dispersions are achieved. The borate or phosphate glasses with high proportions of lead oxide have, due to the polarization tendency of the Pb ion, a considerable absorption in the visible and especially in the blue area of light.
It is the object of the invention to provide a glass composition for the specified optical range create that can be melted without difficulty and the specified disadvantages of Boratbzw. Phosphate glasses ■ with a high lead content do not have.
The desired properties can be achieved with a silicon dioxide-free optical zinc-lead-borate glass achieve the following composition:
20 bis 32 Gewichtsprozent B2O3,
18 bis 36 Gewichtsprozent ZnO,20 to 32 percent by weight B 2 O 3 ,
18 to 36 percent by weight ZnO,
2 bis 32 Gewichtsprozent PbO,2 to 32 percent by weight PbO,
2 bis 18 Gewichtsprozent WO3,2 to 18 percent by weight WO 3 ,
O bis 15 Gewichtsprozent TiO2 und0 to 15 weight percent TiO 2 and
O bis 20 Gewichtsprozent La2O3.0 to 20 weight percent La 2 O 3 .
The base glass can additionally contain up to 10 percent by weight Al 2 O 3 and / or up to 5 percent by weight ZrO 2 as a stabilizing component that changes the refractive index and dispersion. It is also advantageous that up to 2 percent by weight of As 2 O 3 and / or NH 4 NO 3 is added to the melt as a refining agent.
It was found that when PbO is gradually replaced by ZnO and La 2 O 3 , the refractive index hardly changes, but the dispersion does. In addition, the dispersions can be influenced to a great extent by WO 3 and TiO 2 without significant increases in the refractive index.
The relatively low PbO content of the glass according to the invention also has a very beneficial effect on a increased light transmission. With the remaining PbO content, it is important to that the lead is present and preserved in a divalent form. The best products are through the use of lead metaborate. When using zinc metaborate, the platinum dissolution is much lower of crucible material. The aforementioned factors are the cause that the glasses according to the invention are almost color-free.
The exchange of PbO by ZnO and La 2 O 3 described above also increases the chemical resistance of the glass. Additions of WO 3 , TiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 and ZrO 2 , which are essentially added to achieve anomalous partial dispersions, have a promoting effect on chemical resistance.
These glasses are also valuable for the manufacturing optical industry because they are for the obtained refractive index have relatively low density.
