The present invention is concerned with a method of manufacturing waterborne sound reflectors
using foam plastic.
It is known that foams, for example cellular rubber, are suitable as water-borne sound reflectors.
The reflection properties for water-borne sound are based on the gas inclusions. With larger static
By pressing together the cell volume of the known reflectors is reduced to such an extent that
that the reflective properties are lost. At high pressure, what is trapped diffuses
Gas out of the cells during prolonged static load. Polyurethane foams also have reflective properties.
However, they are open-celled and must be protected against the ingress of water.
As soon as water is prevented from entering, they have, due to their stiff support structure, which at
This material ensures the reflection effect, the advantage that it is their at higher static pressures

but have so far opposed considerable technical reservations which gave rise to the doubt
whether polyurethane foam is at all suitable for this purpose. First the present one
Invention also led to the fact that such foams were successful as a material for water-borne reflectors
could be applied.
The present invention relates to a method for the preparation of waterborne sound reflectors made of plastics, and it consists in the fact that polyurethane foam is heated to about 120 0 C, is cast around it in a mold with polyurethane casting. By using the method according to the present invention it is achieved that air or gases present in pores are expelled before the casting with the polymerizing casting resin takes place.
