goes down.
The statistical roughness of a galvanically generated contour is thereby. but not only determined by the behavior of the galvanic bath, but also by the copying process used in the manufacture of the matrix. Of the. Photocopying varnish, with the help of which the screen grid is transferred to the matrix, works during development and post-hardening - so that a fine contour with greater fineness is lost or at least blurred, even if an extremely fine grain is used in the photo layer: if also the one used If the paint is not sufficiently hard and stable in relation to the bath liquid, the contour suffers each time a deposited film is removed from the die. Several prints are, however, a prerequisite for economical production. In order to overcome this difficulty, a special method for copying and pretreating the die was developed according to the invention, which is characterized in that a brass plate usually used as a die is applied before a known Copy varnish, e.g. 8. a polyvinyl alcohol solution sensitized by the addition of potassium dichromate, first coated with a thin layer of nickel and the pattern created after copying and developing is post-hardened with chromic acid solution and baked at a temperature between 150 and 2ooo C.
The post-hardening with chromic acid would in fact cause a strong passivation on a brass surface, which manifests itself in a veil that is difficult to remove by chemical or mechanical post-treatment. Metals, which are less sensitive, are in turn less suitable as bath electrodes or matrices than brass and are also much more expensive. Nickel, on the other hand, is-even in thin layers of only practically not attacked by the weak chromic acid solution, so that there is also no haze. Since the copying lacquer used does not work very much during photocopying and is very stable due to the post-curing with chromic acid, a lifelike reproduction of the original is obtained on the template, in which a fine contour comes out cleanly and from which several galvanic prints can be made .
The die is thus produced in the following way: First,
photographic reproduction of the drawn template of a smallest unit of the perforated field,
the perforated field put together and after photographic reduction on a microfilm
on the coated with a fine, about 2o @z thick layer of nickel and with a
Transferring the sensitized polyvinyl alcohol solution prepared brass matrix. To
after copying and developing, the exposed layer is treated with a weak chromic acid solution
post-cured and the developed pattern is then baked at approx. 18o ° C.
