Ein bekanntes Verfahren zur Herstellung von massivem Doubledrahl besteht darin, daß ein Kern aus Silber oder einem anderen Metall mit einer Golddecke umhüllt wird, worauf die Erhitzung der Metalle erfolgt, nachdem ein Eisenmantel um dieselben herumgelegt ist. Zumeist benutzte man als solchen Eiserimantel die Preßbacken, welche bei dem Preßvorgang den Druck der Presse auf die zu vereinigenden Metalle zu übertragen bestimmt sind. Die Eisenummantelung, die mit erhitzt wird, gibt eine Gewähr dafür, daß der aus dem Feuer genommene Metallkern mit der Goldumhüllung die erforderliche Temperatur bis zur Beendigung des Pressens beibehält.
