Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
For the representation of nitro substitution products of aromatic amines one has hitherto several methods are used, which consist in the fact that one acetyl, benzoyl, benzylideneamines represents, in this introduces the nitro groups and the resulting product with acids or saponified alkalis.
These processes all have the disadvantage that either the radical protecting the amido group is completely lost in the saponification or, as is the case with e.g. B. in the benzylideneaniline, can only be recovered as benzaldehyde with considerable losses.
The present invention now relates to a process which does not have these disadvantages, but allows the preparation of nitro-substituted derivatives of all amines which form a condensation product with phthalic anhydride with elimination of water, with recovery of this condensation product.
This is how the nitration of phlalanil is formed under suitable conditions in the vast majority of ■ ρ-nitrophtalanil, which can easily be converted into phtalanil and p-nitroaniline by heating with aniline under pressure leaves. In addition to the desired p-nitroaniline, one obtains the The starting material, namely phtalanil, is returned in a form that can be used after it has been freed If moisture is present, re-nitration is permitted immediately. It succeeds using this new method It is surprisingly easy to convert any amount of aniline into p-nitroaniline with one and the same amount of phthalic anhydride.
I. 2.23 kg of phthalanil are finely powdered, with stirring, in 14 kg of sulfuric acid of .66 ° Be. dissolved with gentle heating and the liquid is then cooled to 0 ° by a cold mixture, the dissolved phthalanil partially separating out again. Then 2.55 kg of a mixture of sulfuric acid monohydrate and nitric acid with a HN O 8 content of 25 percent are slowly run in so that the temperature does not rise above -J- 3 °. When the nitration is complete, the mixture is stirred for a short time at 0 ° and then poured onto ice, the nitrophthalanil formed is suctioned off sharply and washed out with enough water until the wash water no longer reacts acidic. The nitrophthalanil is then dried and heated with 1.1 kg of aniline in a pressure vessel Y for 2 to 1 hour at 170 to 180 °, the contents becoming liquid. After cooling, the contents of the bomb are treated with steam in order to exaggerate some excess aniline and some o-nitroaniline. From the residue is obtained, the p-nitroaniline by boiling with water, while Phtalanil remains, the freed by briefly heating to about 150 0 from the water and is used after pulverizing again immediately for the nitration.
The temperature when heating with aniline is very high depending on the amount of water attached different and varies within the limits from 100 to 180 degrees.
II. Preparation of dinitraniline (2: 4). 2.23 kg Phtalanil be excessive heating and stirring in 14 kg of sulfuric acid of 66 0 Be. solved. After the liquid has then cooled to 0 ° with ice, some of the dissolved phthalanil separating out again, 5.2 kg of a nitrating acid of 25 percent HNO 3 are allowed to flow slowly with good stirring and ice cooling. When the nitration has ended, the mixture is stirred for a further hour at 0 ° and the liquid is poured onto ice, the dinitrophtalanil separating out as a solid yellow mass. The same is squeezed out, washed with water and dried. After drying, it is heated to 180 ° for 2 hours with 1 kg of aniline in an open kettle. The melt is treated with cold acetone, which easily dissolves the dinitraniline formed, while most of the phthalanil remains. The phthalanil that has gone into solution separates out after the greater part of the acetone has distilled off. The dinitraniline is separated from the mother liquor by precipitation with water and recrystallized from alcohol for further purification. The recovered phthalanil can be used again for a new operation after drying.
III. Preparation of 2-nitro-p-toluidine. 2.37 kg p-Tolylphtalimid be excessive heating and stirring at 14 kg of sulfuric acid of 66 0 Be. solved. After the liquid has cooled to 0 °, 2.6 kg of a nitrating acid of 26 percent HNO 3 are allowed to slowly flow into it while stirring and cooling with ice. When the nitration is complete, the mixture is stirred and poured for a short time, then the liquid is poured onto ice. The nitro-p-tolylphthalimide separates out as a solid white mass. The melting point of the compound after recrystallization from glacial acetic acid, from which it emerges in white, shiny needles, is 225 °. The nitro compound is filtered off with suction, washed out and dried. The same is then kg in the pressure vessel with 1.15 p-toluidine 1 J 2 hours at 210 0 heated. The melt is boiled up with dilute hydrochloric acid, which leaves the p-tolylphthalimide undissolved, while the 2-nitro-4-toluidine formed goes into solution. The same is precipitated by soda and, after pressing, purified by recrystallization from water.
The reaction with aniline proceeds in exactly the same way, only that in this one Trap phtalanil is regressed.
IV. Preparation of 5- (or 4-) nitro-2-amidobenzoic acid. 2.67 kg of phthalyl-o-imidobenzoic acid are dissolved in 15 kg of sulfuric acid of 66 ° Be. solved. 2.6 kg of a nitrating acid of 26 percent HNO 3 are then slowly added to the liquid cooled with ice, with thorough stirring. When the nitration is complete, the mixture is stirred in the cold for a short time and then poured onto ice. The nitro compound deposited as a yellow, solid mass is pressed off, washed out and dried. It is then heated to 180 ° in a reflux condenser with 2 kg of aniline Y for 2 hours. The melt is boiled with soda solution, which leaves the phthalanil behind. The excess aniline is driven off from the soda solution with steam and the nitroamidobenzoic acid is precipitated by acetic acid or the careful addition of a mineral acid. It crystallizes from dilute alcohol in fine yellow needles, which decompose at 265 to 267 °, and is probably a mixture of 5- and 4-nitro-2-amidobenzoic acid.
If one of the products belonging here is displayed for technical reasons cleavage by means of the base originally used does not appear advantageous other bases, such as toluidine, xylidine, amidobenzoic acid, naphthylamines, etc., are also used depending on which is technically advantageous in the individual case. It will of course be im in the latter case, in addition to the desired connection, not the original, but that Condensation product of phthalic anhydride obtained with the base used for cleavage.
