Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
The rust-shaped manhole covers, which are used for street drainage, leave not enough water through between the grate bars during heavy downpours, as a result whose streets or Basement floods are caused. The present invention takes care that the narrowed by the manhole cover drain opening in one such a case increases automatically when the grate is lifted.
Ι shows a gully provided with this grate cover in the longitudinal section AB of Fig. 2,
Fig. 2 im Grundriß,Fig. 2 in plan,
Fig. 3 im Querschnitt bei gewöhnlichem Wasserdurchlaß,Fig. 3 in cross section with normal water passage,
Fig. 4 in Seitenansicht bei starkem Wasserzufluß. Fig. 4 in side view with a strong water inflow.
Fig. ,3).The grate r, which rotates around the pin χ (Fig. 4), lies on the manhole frame b. The shaft chamber k is penetrated by a transverse web s connecting the side walls, through which the flow opening is divided into two unequal parts ρ and f . The larger off-voltage is ρ by a flap covered ■ {(s. Fig. 3).
Under normal circumstances, the flap \ is kept closed by the weight of the grate r to which it is connected by the rods d attached to its lever arms. In the event of a moderate downpour, the smaller opening f is able to drain away all of the water flowing into the gully. With heavy downpours or. In the case of cloudbursts, on the other hand, more water flows into the shaft chamber through the grate openings than the opening f can swallow, and the chamber k gradually fills with water. Finally, the water column is grown so that its weight can push the flap% from its seating. As a result, the grate is also rotated around the pin r by means of the rods dd and lifts off from the frame b (FIG. 4), so that the full cross-section of the shaft is exposed for the flow of water. As soon as the strong flow of water ceases and normal water conditions occur again, the flap also closes, and with it the grate.
