Durch die soeben beschriebene Anordnung wird der Schieber 40 in der Längsrichtung der Welle 3 hin- und herbewegt, wobei er durch geeignete, in der Zeichnung nicht dargestellte Führungen verhindert wird, sich um die Welle zu drehen. In dem Schieber ist eine Anzahl Dampfkanäle vorgesehen, welche derart angeordnet sind, dafs sie bei den Kolbenbewegungen die erforderlichen Verbindungen zwischen den Zuflufsrohren, Cylindern und Abflufsrohren herstellen. In den auf der Zeichnung gezeichneten Kolbenstellungen tritt der Hochdruckdampf durch die Einlafsrohre 46 in die Hochdruckcylinder 4, 4 ein, während der in den Cylindern 7, 7 schon ausgenutzte Dampf durch die Abflufsrohre 47 hindurch entweicht, während die Cylinder 5, 5 in Verbindung mit den Cylindern 6, 6 stehen.
