Das Ausströmungsloch g des Petroleumdampfes ist durch den Absperrstift k geschlossen. Nachdem in dem Anwärmschälchen i einige Tropfen Alkohol, zum Zweck der Erhitzung und Verdampfung des im Zulaufrohr / befindlichen Petroleums, verbrannt sind, wird der Absperrstift k heruntergeschraubt. Der Petroleumdampf kann nun ungehindert durch das Brennerknie h und weiter durch das Ausströmungsloch g in das Innere des Brennerschaftes b eintreten. Hier vermischt sich der Petroleumdampf mit dem Sauerstoff der durch die Löcher/ eingeführten Luft, steigt in den Brenner c, bricht sich hier erst an dem, parallel mit dem Brennerschnitt eingelassenen Stift d, wodurch aus dem Dampfstrahl ein Strahlenbündel entsteht, welches, weil die Steigkraft gebrochen, auch langsam und gleichmäfsig aus allen Punkten des Brennerschnittes austritt und, angezündet mit klarer, weifser Flamme verbrennt. Ohne die Unterbrechung des Dampfstrahles durch den Stift d würde die Flamme unregelmäfsig und langgestreckt und mit mehr blauer als weifser Flamme aus dem Brenner herausbrennen. Die aus c herausbrennende Flamme befindet sich zwischen den beiden Wärmeleitern a, welche durch diese Flamme fortwährend erhitzt werden.
