Hieraus geht schon hervor, dafs für den Uneingeweihten die Oeffnung eines, selbst auch nur mit einem einzigen Riegel versehenen Schlosses erhebliche Schwierigkeiten bereitet, wenn nicht ganz unmöglich wird, denn eine Oeffnung könnte thatsa'chlich nur zufällig durch allerlei Drehversuche geschehen. Um das Schlofs wirklich zu öffnen, mufs man nämlich, gleichviel ob die Zuhaltung g vorhanden ist oder nicht, den Schlüssel zuerst nach rechts, im Sinne des Uhrzeigers, also des Zuschliefsens, und zwar bis zu dem Punkte drehen, den Fig. 3 der Zeichnung veranschaulicht.
