Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
It is known that the phosphorites used for the production of superphosphate contain in addition to silica 2 to iopCt. Fluorine, and it therefore develops when they are broken down with sulfuric acid always silicon fluoride. This gas escaping in mist used to be to extensive vegetation damage and resulting claims for damages Anlafs given, so that it forbade itself to escape into the atmosphere permit. The silicon fluoride was decomposed with water, whereby hydrofluoric acid and Form silica. But this apparently simple operation also has its problems connected with the fact that silicon fluoride reacts rather difficultly with water, and that excretion solid silica to blockages and frequent cleaning of the decomposition apparatus leads. Since the development of gas usually continues when the sleeping chambers are emptied, the with this Work entrusted workers are severely harassed.
All of these inconveniences are avoided at one stroke if the silicon fluoride vapors are used in the sleeping chambers respectively. retains the reaction mixture, and this is achieved by adding such salts, which Form silicofluorine compounds that are difficult to decompose by sulfuric acid, in particular by Potassium, sodium and ammonium salts. For reasons of expediency, one restricts oneself on the use of sulfates.
The remarkable effect of these sulphates can be explained by the fact that Silicon fluoride and an alkali salt with the participation of water silicofluoric acid respectively. Forms silicofluoroalkali and silicic acid; this explanation is consistent with the fact that silicofluoroalkali can be precipitated from acidic solution, thus against acids is pretty consistent. It is true that there is also an indication in the literature that silicofluorine salts decomposed by sulfuric acid. The resistance of the silica fluoroalkali must therefore depend on the concentration of sulfuric acid and on the temperature. To clarify the situation were made the following experiments, in which only with sulfuric acid of 54, 60 and 66 ° Be. worked was considered to be those concentrations used exclusively in the superphosphate industry be used.
Versuch A.Experiment A.
Beim Vermischen von 20 g Kieselfluornatrium und 200 g Schwefelsäure von 540 Be. war die Zersetzungstemperatur 450C.Upon mixing of 20 g of Kiesel sodium fluoride and 200 g of sulfuric acid of 54 0 Be. the decomposition temperature was 45 0 C.
Fluosilicate potassium decomposes in the same circumstances at a somewhat higher temperature, pebble ammonium fluoride at about 25 0, fluosilicate iron and magnesium fluosilicate However, even at room temperature.
Versuch B.Attempt B.
Beim Vermischen von 20 g Kieselfluornatrium und 200 g Schwefelsäure von 54° Be., aber unter Zusatz vonWhen mixing 20 g of silica fluorosodium and 200 g of sulfuric acid of 54 ° Be., But with the addition of
a) 20 g Bisulfat war die Zersetzungstemperatur erst 750, bei Zusatz vona) 20 g of bisulfate, the decomposition temperature was only 75 0 , with the addition of
b) 60 g Bisulfat erst 105 bis iio°, bei Zusatz vonb) 60 g bisulfate only 105 to 10 °, if added from
c) 20 g Ammonsulfat erst 60 bis 650, bei Zusatz vonc) 20 g of ammonium sulfate only 60 to 65 0 , with the addition of
d) 60 g Ammonsulfat erst go bis 950.d) 60 g ammonium sulfate only go up to 95 0 .
Versuch C.Experiment C.
Kieselfluorsalze mit Schwefelsäure von 600Be. entwickeln schon bei gewöhnlicher Temperatur Siliciumfluorid, ebenso mit Schwefelsäure von 66°.Silica fluorine salts with sulfuric acid of 60 0 Be. develop silicon fluoride even at ordinary temperatures, as does sulfuric acid at 66 °.
Versuch D.Experiment D.
Beim Vermischen von 20 g Kieselfluornatrium und 180 g Schwefelsäure von 60 ° Be. unter Zusatz vonWhen mixing 20 g of silica fluorosodium and 180 g of sulfuric acid of 60 ° Be. under Addition of
a) 20 bis 120 g Bisulfat war die Zersetzungstemperatur ι 5 °, dagegen bei Zusatz von a) 20 to 120 g of bisulfate was the decomposition temperature ι 5 °, on the other hand with the addition of
b) 240 g Bisulfat erst 350, ebenso beib) 240 g bisulfate only 35 0 , also at
c) 20 bis 120 g Ammonsulfat 150, aber beic) 20 to 120 g of ammonium sulfate 15 0 , but at
d) 240 g Ammonsulfat erst 500.d) 240 g ammonium sulfate only 50 0 .
From these experiments it is shown first of all that the stability of the silicofluorosodium against sulfuric acid, the presence of a minimum amount of water or the presence hydrous sulfuric acid is bound. But there is also the influence of the additions of sodium and Ammonium sulphate, which undoubtedly increased the decomposition temperature of the reaction mixtures. Where this circumstance was not noticeable, at least one was conspicuous Delay in the evolution of gas, as well as a slow and regular escape of fluorosilicon, which was otherwise very stormy.
When the phosphates are broken down, these differences become even more apparent.
Versuch E.Try.
After mixing 200 g of phosphorite with 200 g of sulfuric acid of 54 ° Be. Stormy decomposition occurred at a reaction temperature of 65 °.
Versuch F.Attempt F.
Be'., versetzt mitWith a mixture of 200 g of phosphorite and 200 g of sulfuric acid of 54 ° Be '., Added with
a) 20 g Bisulfat bei einer Reactionstemperatur von 5 2°, erfolgte die Ent Wickelung von Siliciumfluorid erst bei 90°, nach Zusatz vona) 20 g of bisulfate at a reaction temperature of 5 2 °, the development of silicon fluoride took place only at 90 °, after adding
b) 60 g Bisulfat bei einer Reactionstemperatur von 40 °, dagegen noch nicht bei ioo°,b) 60 g bisulfate at a reaction temperature of 40 °, but not yet at 100 °,
c) 20 g Ammonsulfat bei einer Reactionstemperatur von 550 erst bei 6o°,c) 20 g of ammonium sulfate at a reaction temperature of 55 0 only at 60 °,
d) 60 g Ammonsulfat bei einer Reactionstemperatur von 460 erst bei 700.d) 60 g of ammonium sulfate at a reaction temperature of 46 0 only at 70 0 .
Versuch G.Experiment G.
In a mixture of 200 g of phosphorite with 180 g of sulfuric acid of 60 ° Be. Stormy decomposition occurred at a reaction temperature of 90 ° .
Versuch H.Attempt H.
In einem Gemisch von 200 g Phosphorit und 180 g Schwefelsäure von 60° Be. mit Zusatz vonIn a mixture of 200 g of phosphorite and 180 g of sulfuric acid of 60 ° Be. with addition from
a) 20 g Bisulfat bei einer Reactionstemperatur von 75° trat schwache, regelmäfsige Entwickelung von Siliciumfluorid auf, welche sich bei Wärmezufuhr nicht steigerte, nach Zusatz vona) 20 g of bisulfate at a reaction temperature of 75 ° showed a weak, regular development of silicon fluoride, which did not increase with the application of heat, after the addition of
b) 60 g Bisulfat aber bei einer Reactionstemperatur von 65 ° entwickelte sich noch bei go° kein Siliciumfluorid; nach Zusatz vonb) 60 g of bisulfate but at a reaction temperature of 65 ° still developed at go ° no silicon fluoride; after adding
c) 20 g Ammonsulfat bei einer Reactionstemperatur von 85° entwickelte sich Siliciumfluorid heftiger als bei a); nach Zusatz vonc) 20 g of ammonium sulfate at a reaction temperature of 85 ° silicon fluoride developed more violent than with a); after adding
d) 60 g Ammonsulfat bei einer Reactionstemperatur von 70° entwickelte sich Siliciumfluorid bei 8o°.d) 60 g of ammonium sulfate at a reaction temperature of 70 ° developed silicon fluoride at 8o °.
From this series of experiments one can see that by adding alkali salts to the Mixture of phosphate and sulfuric acid is probably capable of the development of To slow down or stop silicon fluoride vapors altogether. However, the reaction temperature becomes depressed. But this is not the only reason for the reduced occurrence of fluorosilicate gases, because they occur when they occur. Use of sufficient amounts of bisulfate also not at the temperatures which the breakdown of the phosphorites usually takes place.
Of essential importance for the present case are sodium and sodium Ammonium sulfates nor the potassium sulfates, while the effects of other salts are of minor importance Meaning is.
Another advantage of using such additives in pulping Phosphates can be seen in the fact that superphosphates produced in this way are much quicker and more thorough than getting dry without additives. This is particularly noticeable when using sodium sulfates. For example, it was drying the reaction product of experiment E only in 24 hours, while the products of experiment Fa) and Fb) already in 12 resp. 4 hours were completely dry. It was similar with the products of experiments G, Ha) and Hb).
