Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
The present invention relates to the processing of ores, in particular those which Contains lead and silver.
According to the patent 97943, sulfur-containing lead and silver ores can be conveniently used in to treat them by converting these sulphidic ores into a molten halogen salt enters, e.g. B. in a halogen salt of zinc, cadmium, manganese, aluminum, magnesium and so on, whereby the lead and silver mix with the chlorine of the chloride in question Exchange of sulfur connects. It is also often used in such ores sulphurous iron present in abundance is partly dissolved with it.
Attempts made with this · procedure showed that it is also possible with the aid of such a chloride melt to produce ores to open up which lead and silver are not in sulphidic but in oxidic form either naturally or as a result of oxidic roasting or the like. Are contained. Here, however, the unpredictable fact was established that the contrary the iron present was not dissolved in addition to the sulphidic materials.
Based on the above observation, according to the present invention, the in Naturally occurring ores which contain the metals of lead and silver individually or together contain, if they are not already as oxides, but as carbonates or sulfides occur, such as B. the well-known in Broken-Hill occurring lead-zinc candles and so on, first glow or roast to convert them into oxides and then into a non-acidic melt, such as zinc-sodium chloride double salt, which dissolve the named oxides, bring in and stir, until the oxides of lead and silver contained in the ore dissolve in the melt of the Dissolved the salt. In doing so, these oxides are likely to be converted into chlorides or oxychlorides respectively basic salts over as it can be illustrated by the following formulas:
r. 2 PbO + Zn CZ2 = PbO, Pb Cl2 + Zn O; 2. Ag2O + Zn Cl2 = 2 Ag Cl + Zn O. r. 2 PbO + Zn CZ 2 = PbO, Pb Cl 2 + Zn O; 2. Ag 2 O + Zn Cl 2 = 2 Ag Cl + Zn O.
An advantage of this procedure, according to the above observations, is that the in Iron found in the ores when the ores are first roasted, not from the applied Chloride is digested while following the earlier method of dissolving the sulphidic ores in chloride melts the iron through the applied chloride with digested and in the subsequent reduction contaminated the lead obtained.
Aufserdem wird im Gegensatz zu der Behandlung sulfidischen Materials das in dem Erz enthaltene Kupfer bei vorliegendem VerfahrenFurthermore, in contrast to the treatment of sulphidic material, that in the ore contained copper in the present process
aufgelöst, da es sich nicht in sulfidischer, sondern in oxydischer Form befindet.dissolved because it is not in sulphidic but in oxidic form.
