Die Arbeit des Kieshammers besteht darin, dafs durch den Druck des Niederfallens eines geriffelten Hammers die Spitzen desselben in den Stein eindringen und dadurch Steintheilchen absprengen. Zum Ersatz dieser langwierigen Arbeit bringen wir unsere Walzen, welche gleich einem Kieshammer geriffelt sind, in Anwendung. Diese Walzen sind in verstellbaren Lagern gelagert und werden durch Schrauben, welche auf diese wirken, gegen den zu bearbeitenden Stein geprefst. Die Walzen werden so durch sichere Führung auf der Steinfläche abgerollt und gleichen hierin einem continuirlich arbeitenden Kieshammer (Kronenhammer). Die Walzen lassen sich nicht blos auf gerade, sondern auch auf gekrümmte Flächen verwenden. ' In der beiliegenden Zeichnung ist ein Apparat speciell zur Bearbeitung von Steinwalzen auf der Drehbank dargestellt. Denselben zeigt Fig. ι in der Vorderansicht, Fig. 2 in der Oberansicht und Fig. 3 im Querschnitt. Es sind bei demselben, um eine genaue Fläche zu erzielen, die Arbeitswalzen A A 1 möglichst lang gewählt. Die zu bearbeitende Steinwalze B erhält eine Drehung durch Mitnehmer von der Antriebswelle D. Zum Vorarbeiten nimmt man die Arbeitswalzen kürzer, nicht aber unter 36 mm, weil sonst dieselben den Stein nur einriefen und nicht bearbeiten würden.
