Overload protection for the propeller shaft of motor boats In motor boats
is that of the prime mover, such as an internal combustion engine,
transfer the supplied drive energy to the so-called screw shaft via a gear unit,
which carries a ship's propeller at its end reaching into the water. The extension
the drive axle of the transmission can be designed directly as a screw shaft
be. However, it is also possible to connect the drive axle of the gearbox via intermediate shafts
to connect with the screw shaft. This arrangement is mostly found on outboard motors,
where the power transmission must be deflected at an angle.
However, this transmission of the driving force has the disadvantage that at
running drive on the screw shaft the torque increasing resistances, the
by objects floating in the water, such as pieces of wood
can damage the drive shaft of the gearbox and the gearbox
can lead yourself.
These disadvantages are addressed by the invention described below
be avoided.
It becomes an overload protection for the propeller shafts of motor boats
proposed that consist of a coupling body rigidly connected to the end of one shaft
and a form-fitting cooperating therewith, non-rotatable, but axially against the
Force of a spring displaceably arranged on the end of the other shaft coupling body
consists, the centering of the two shaft ends by one of the two coupling bodies
surrounding guide sleeve takes place. It is characteristic of this overload protection,
that the engine-side provided with beveled or rounded cams or teeth
End of the tail shaft rotatable in a sleeve firmly connected to the drive shaft
is mounted and one provided with counter cams or counter teeth for engagement in
the cam or counter teeth of the end of the tail shaft of certain coupling bodies
is also arranged in the sleeve, which by means of longitudinal ribs in grooves of the in
the sleeve fixed guide body out and against the pressure of a spring
is axially displaceable in it.
An example of the overload protection device according to the invention for the propeller shafts of motor boats is shown schematically in the drawing. The drive shaft extending from the transmission, not shown, is provided at its end with a sleeve 10 which is firmly connected to the drive shaft. On the other end face, the sleeve 10 is formed into a ring 11 . The end 14 of the tail shaft 12 is arranged in the sleeve 10 and has a larger diameter than the tail shaft 12 itself, so that a shoulder-like shoulder 13 is formed in the plane of contact between the two. This shoulder-like shoulder 13 cooperates with the ring 11 of the sleeve 10 and ensures a perfect guidance of the end 14 of the tail shaft 12 both axially to the rear and radially Teeth 15 provided. Counter cams or teeth 16 , which are arranged on the coupling body 17 , cooperate with these cams or teeth 15. The coupling body 17 has a conical projection 18 which runs coaxially to the common axis of the shafts to be coupled and which lies towards the side of the helical spring 19 and partially slides into it. The other end of the helical spring 19 rests on a spring plate 20, through the adjustment of which in the axial direction the contact pressure of the coupling body 17 can be regulated. For this purpose, the spring plate 20 is detachably connected to the sleeve 10 in such a way that it can be held at various axial points. For this purpose, the sleeve 10 can be provided with two slots through which screws are passed which are screwed into corresponding nut threads in the spring plate 20. If the screws are firmly tightened, the position of the spring plate 20 relative to the sleeve 10 is axially fixed. By loosening the screws, the spring plate 20 can be brought into another position in which it can be fixed by tightening the screws. To fix the position of the spring plate 20, the slots in the sleeve 10 can also be provided with locking points. By pushing the spring plate 20 against the conical projection 18 of the coupling body 17 , its contact pressure is increased and by pushing it away, it is decreased. To the coupling body 17 10 guide body 21 are provided in the sleeve, which are fixedly connected to a cylindrical or annular ring body with the sleeve 10 or worked into the sleeve 10 degrees. The guide body 21 has grooves in which the coupling body 17 is slidably guided by means of longitudinal ribs 17 a.
When an increased resistance occurs on the screw or on the tail shaft 12, an increased torque occurs in the overload protection, which is broken down into force components by the design of the coupling surfaces 15, 16 or the like according to the principle of the disengaging safety coupling by their inclined surfaces and the axial component of which moves the coupling body 17 against the force of the spring 19 in the sleeve 10 such that the cams 16 of the coupling body 17 are no longer firmly engaged with the counter cams 15 of the end 14 of the tail shaft 12. In this way, the cams 16 ratchet over the counter-cams 15, and the transmission of the driving force to the screw is very low when the drive machine is running until the increased resistance acts on the screw or tail shaft 12. The torque acting on the tail shaft 12 from the drive side is so small that damage to the tail shaft 12 and the screw attached to it is avoided. Damage to the gearbox and the drive machine cannot occur. In normal operation, a sufficiently strong coupling is ensured by the force and form fit on the cams 16 and the counter cams 15 , so that the tail shaft 12 and the screw arranged on it are driven at normal speed while overcoming the torque caused by the water on the screw .
