The apparatus shown in the accompanying drawings is intended for the control valves of steam engines, pumps and the like. In short, wherever raised valves are to be closed suddenly. It acts in such a way that the piston b seated on the valve rod a is suddenly depressed by the external air pressure as soon as it is released as a result of the vacuum created under the piston when the valve is lifted. Its purpose is to prevent the valve from being put on the seat violently and noisily by the fact that at the moment the valve is opened the piston hits a supply of oil or some other liquid that is in vessel c and the amount of which is therefore a very specific one got to. This quantity is produced by itself when the piston goes down, in that all excess oil is pressed out through the little valve d into the space above the piston, where there is also an oil supply for the purpose of sealing the piston. In the course of time some of this oil escapes through the seal of the piston and increases the contents of the oil under the piston; meanwhile, the superfluous oil is repeatedly pushed out through valve d .
The above-described device, which does not form the subject of the invention, shows in practice the disadvantage that with the sudden decline of the piston, and especially with valves with a relatively large opening height, more and more oil than permissible is expelled. If this oil is not replaced with every stroke, there will soon be a shortfall under the piston, which no longer sits on the oil layer when the valve is closed, and the result is a violent beating of the valve. This knowledge has led to the present invention. It consists of a device which replaces the loss of oil and accordingly regulates the oil filling under the piston continuously so that a shortfall cannot arise. The nature of this arrangement is of a secondary nature; she could e.g. B. can be created by the fact that the piston would go into its cylinder with such a small play that the sealing oil could not penetrate en masse from above, but in such an amount to replace the oil loss. A fine groove or several of these could also be made as a recess on the circumference of the piston, which filled up with each rise and release this oil content downwards or the like. More. In the drawing, a small valve ν has been chosen as an example, similar to valve d, but with the difference that it opens downwards. The required oil substitute is expediently different from the one above the piston. removed from the sealing oil, but if such a seal is not available, it can also be obtained from another oil supply.
