Description
Process for the preparation of a disubstituted trimer or tetramer Phosphonitrile The invention relates to the preparation of a disubstituted one trimeric or tetrameric phosphonitrile.
For several years there has been the development of phosphonitrile polymers interesting because of their good stability at high temperatures.
The cyclic tetramers and trimers of the disubstituted phosphonitriles are starting materials for phosphonitrile polymers. The preparation of these phosphonitrile trimers and tetramers has been very tedious and costly, so that these valuable compounds have not found general use.
A dialkyl or diaryl trichlorophosphorane was used with the methods known up to now with ammonium chloride or with ammonia either in liquid or gaseous medium implemented. Such methods have two major disadvantages; once becomes a Raw material used, which contains pentavalent phosphorus, which means that 3 gram atoms of chlorine are removed as a by-product per mole of phosphorus compound have to. Furthermore, the dialkyl and diaryl trichlorophosphoranes are not readily available and must be prepared by chlorination of the corresponding monochlorophosphines. Naturally, it would be more appropriate to use monochlorophosphine as the starting material use; however, this has not yet been possible.
The method of the invention now makes one extremely practical feasible and economical process for the production of trimer or tetrameric phosphorus nitriles, starting from monohalophosphines, proposed.
The inventive method for producing a disubstituted trimeric or tetrameric phosphonitrile is characterized in that one Solution of a disubstituted monohalophosphine of the general formula (R) 2PX, in which R is an alkyl or aryl radical and X is a halogen atom, in an inert Reacts solvents with ammonia and chloramine at a temperature of 0 to 300 "C, the chloramine being in at the same time as the ammonia or after the ammonia the reaction zone is brought, and that the optionally obtained chlorine-containing Intermediate product heated to 200 to 300 ° C in a known manner.
If R is an alkyl radical, it has, for example, 2 to 16 carbon atoms, while X is preferably chlorine.
Regardless of whether ammonia and chloramine at the same time or how are added successively indicated above, the reaction can be on best as a two-step reaction according to the following scheme: 1. (R) 2PX t NHg + R2PNH2 2. n R2PNH2 + n ClNH2 [- (R) 2P = N -] n + n NH4C1 in which R is an alkyl or aryl radical and n represents the value of 3 or 4.
Die Reaktion wird in Gegenwart eines Lösungsmittels, wie Tetrachloräthan, Benzol, Chlorbenzol oder Cyclohexan durchgeführt. The reaction is carried out in the presence of a solvent such as tetrachloroethane, Benzene, chlorobenzene or cyclohexane carried out.
The reaction is exothermic, so that consequently in general external heating is necessary at least after the first or initial stage. The reaction temperature is between 0 and 300 "C.
To get the maximum yield of the desired phosphonitrile, a stoichiometric excess of chloramine and ammonia is generally used. The chloramine-ammonia mixture, which in the preferred embodiment of The present invention is used, is generally according to the method of U.S. Patent 2,837,409. In that patent is a method for the preparation of chloramine described, in which generally anhydrous Chlorine with an excess of anhydrous Ammonia in gaseous form Phase reacted and the ammonium chloride formed by the reaction by filtration Will get removed. The molar ratio of ammonia to chlorine is above a value of Maintained 2: 1 in order to avoid undesirable side reactions. That after this procedure The ammonia-chloramine mixture produced is best at any rate introduced into a liquid solution of the disubstituted monohalophosphine.
The desired phosphonitrile compound precipitates during the reaction often settles out of the reaction mixture and can easily be separated by filtration will. Subsequent recrystallization from a solvent such as benzene gives another cleaning.
In some reactions, for example when diphenylchlorophosphine is reacted in the manner described above, some chlorine-containing intermediates obtain. In the case of diphenylchlorophosphine, this intermediate probably has the formula [(CH5) 2P (NH,): N P (NH2) (C6H5) 2] Cl. (I) This chlorine-containing intermediate can be easily and completely converted into a mixture of the desired phosphonitrile trimers and convert tetramers by heating it to 200 to 300 "C. in a manner known per se warmed up. In many cases it is due to the working conditions when working up almost completely converted to the trimer and tetramer.
If in the reaction certain solvents, such as symmetrical Tetrachloroethane, so sometimes a certain amount is formed an adduction product from the solvent with the phosphonitrile. For example, if Diphenylphosphonitrile produced in the presence of symmetrical tetrachloroethane is, the addition product formed has the following formula: [(C "H,) SPN] S 3 Cl2CHCHCl2.
Such addition products can easily be converted into the desired one convert cyclic trimers, for example by treating them with a different Solvent treated, which does not form an addition product. Such solvents are for example methanol; you can also use the tetrachloroethane in air or with evaporate under reduced pressure.
If the process product is a mixture of the trimer and the tetramer is, it can be done in the usual way, for example by fractional crystallization, be separated.
In the following, the invention will be described in more detail by means of a few examples explained.
Example 1 5.74 g of diphenylchlorophosphine (0.026 mol) were added in 70 ml Dissolved tetrachloroethane with a boiling point of 144 to 146 "C. A mixture of Ammonia and chloramine from a chloramine generator was about at room temperature Introduced into this solution for 20 minutes. During the chloramine-ammonia addition the temperature of the reaction mixture rose to the reflux temperature of the solvent at. Then the precipitated reaction product was filtered off and treated with tetrachloroethane washed. About 8 g of crude product were obtained, which in Dissolve 200 ml of benzene and boiled for a few minutes and then filtered. From the filtrate were isolated about 1.08 g of crystals which melted at 317-318 "C. This product consisted essentially of diphenylphosphonitrile tetramer in 21% yield. The same benzene solution gave 0.30 g of the trimer of diphenylphosphonitrile with a melting point of 231 "C, the yield being 6010.
Example 2 A mixture of ammonia and chloramine from a chloramine generator was for 40 minutes by a solution of 8 g of diphenylchlorophosphine in 100 ml Tetrachloroethane initiated. The reaction vessel was externally illuminated with an infrared lamp warmed; as a result, and as a result of the heat of reaction, the temperature of the reaction mixture rose to reflux temperature. After a few minutes the temperature was allowed to rise to 80 bis 90 "C. At the end of the reaction, the solid reaction product was under dry Filtered off nitrogen and washed twice with 100 ml of tetrachloroethane. The United Filtrates and washing solutions were evaporated under reduced pressure and gave a light brown, solid mass with a melting point of 236 to 237 "C. The yield was 4.1 g. The melting point could be increased to 240 "C by recrystallization from methanol, and the product obtained corresponded to the formula given above. That at the original reaction obtained solid product was twice with 100 ml of benzene extracted. After concentrating the benzene extract by evaporation, a yield was obtained of 1.6 g of a crystalline solid product with a melting point of 114 "C was obtained. This solid product has been called the tetrachloroethane adduction product of the formula [(C6H5) 2PN] 8 3 C2H2Cl4 identified. Converted when standing in air or under vacuum this addition product is quantitatively converted into the trimer of diphenylphosphonitrile around.
Somit ergab die 3stündige Pyrolyse der Verbindung I bei 260 bis 265"C das Tetramere des Diphenylphosphonitrils in einer Gesamtausbeute von 85O1o. 3.12 g of Compound I were heated to 260-265 "C for 3 hours; the strongly colored residue obtained was treated with 150 ml of boiling benzene. After concentrating the benzene solution obtained, 1.52 g of a crystalline solid were obtained which melted at 315-316 "C and as the tetramer of diphenylphosphonitrile was identified. This corresponded to a yield of 55.4%. By further Concentration or evaporation of the mother liquor gave a second crop of crystals (0.8 g) obtained, which was also the tetramer of diphenylphosphonitrile. Thus, pyrolysis of compound I for 3 hours at 260 to 265 "C gave the tetramer of diphenylphosphonitrile in a total yield of 85O1o.
arbeitet.
