The invention relates to a method for splitting the ends of predominantly synthetic ones Fibers and bristles for the manufacture of brushes and paintbrushes. With the known slot method were the fiber ends to be processed in flat strips or bundled through the effective area guided by rapidly rotating slitting knives or needles, and thus into several individual branches divided up.
However, the branching of the fiber ends obtained in this way was often unsatisfactory in practice, because the desired softness of the slit fiber ends requires a long slit, which then resulted in weak "flags" without sufficient stability. This could avoid this be that the short-slit fibers are exposed to multiple processing, what then but would result in a correspondingly large expenditure of time. There was also the disadvantage that the fine slitting knives or needles were exposed to ao high wear and therefore after had to be replaced and reground for a relatively short operating time.
The shortcomings mentioned are eliminated in the method according to the invention in that the fiber ends as long as a constant or intermittent one directed essentially transversely to its longitudinal axis Pressing, e.g. B. by rolling or beating, are suspended until the fiber ends in several individual fibers are split.
The method according to the invention differs from the known methods fundamentally in that that the splitting of the fiber ends is no longer caused by the penetration of cutting edges or points the fiber is reached, but that the fiber ends are exposed to pressure from the outside for so long until they are broken down into several individual fibers due to deformation of the internal structure takes place. This processing can be done in any width and in all practically occurring degrees of fineness can be carried out, whereby the tool wear is only minimal.

According to a further proposal of the invention, the fiber ends are each both by rolling or beating split as well as divided into individual fibers by slitting means, the fiber ends are preferably split first and then one subsequent to the split fiber ends Piece of fiber is slit into several branches.
