I bis 8). Various additives to vase water are known for keeping cut flowers fresh (Lit. I. till 8). Many and varied substances have been used for these purposes. An effectiveness has generally been proven for sugar solutions of 1 to 5% (ref. 9). So that these solutions are durable, a preservative is also necessary. Combinations of this type are e.g. Am the German patents 852 010, 863 865, 947 121, 952 753 and 957 174 as well as in the USA patent 2,805,137 has been used.

Upon experimental verification, a combination of 15 to 20 g starch sugar or sucrose or another mono- or disaccharide with 50 to 100 mg 8-hydroxyquinoline and 100 to 300 mg hydrazine sulfate per liter of water was found to be the most effective. It has been discovered that the effect of this combination can be significantly increased if 0.5 to 5 mg of gibberellic acid are added per liter of water. Instead of pure gibberellic acid and the equivalent amount of 100% can not ig e n preparations.

With this mixture, for. B. the lifespan of carnations can be extended to 1 x that of flowers that are only in water. The experiments were carried out with ten flowers in 600 ml of liquid. The evaporated water was replenished daily. The flowers had been professionally cut at an angle and peeled off the bottom 10 cm. The room temperature fluctuated between 20 and 30 ° C. The relative humidity was 40 to 60%, corresponding to the conditions in an unheated room in summer. Similar effects were achieved with roses, tulips and gerberas.
