Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
It is known that the water gas often contains volatile iron carbon oxide compounds. When using the water gas as illuminating gas in the gas incandescent lighting (Auerlicht), even very small quantities call these peculiar bodies produce very unpleasant disturbances. When the gas burns This is because these iron carbon oxide compounds decompose and cause formation a brown coating - probably of iron oxide - on the mantles soon a considerable decrease in luminosity.
To render these iron carbon oxide compounds harmless, it has been proposed to date to conduct the water gas through glowing pipes or through suitable acids (see patent specification 72816). Recently Bunte has found that xylene is the iron-carbon compound strongly absorbed, and therefore recommended this hydrocarbon as a cleaning agent.
It has now been shown that these iron-carbon oxide compounds are by means of oxidation suitable oxidizing agents can be completely and easily destroyed without this the remaining components of the water gas are attacked. A number of the well-known and common oxidizing agents are closed suitable for this purpose. You can get them in liquid or solid form with about the same thing Use success. Of the liquid oxidizing agents, bromine water is particularly cheap Results (see e.g. Moniteur scientifique 1892, p. 788, para. 4 and p. 791, para. 4). It has but the disadvantage that the purification takes place with it in the central station itself mufs what the installation of a special scrubber through which the water gas flows has, conditionally. With this type of system, there is also the possibility and danger of that the water gas purified in the central station on its way from there through the Pipe network to the point of use forms iron carbon oxide again, the previous destruction it therefore becomes illusory. The same evils, moreover, are shown by that of Strache (Patent specification 72816) Recommended method: Passing the gas through acids. Even Bunte's xylene process is not entirely free of this.
These inconveniences are completely avoided if instead of liquid or aqueous solutions of oxidizing agents those in solid dry form for destruction of the iron carbon oxide compounds in water gas.
Diese EigenschaftAttempts made have shown the surprising result that it leads to the liberation of the Water gas from the iron carbon oxide compounds contained in it is sufficient if the gas is a layer of a suitable one flow through dry oxidizing agent, preferably mixed with porous materials running. In particular, it is super-manganic acid salts that, when applied in dry form, are the Quickly render iron carbon oxide compounds of the water gas completely harmless. Similar Chromic acid salts or oxidic iron salts, iron chloride etc. also have an effect. This property
der Übermangansauren Salze gestattet eine einfache und praktische Ausführung des Reinigungsverfahrens. the super-manganese acid salts allows a simple and practical execution of the purification process.
One or more with the oxidizing agents, preferably super-manganese potash or acidic chromic acid potash, or iron oxide salts respectively. Ferric chloride filled Cartridges are expediently placed directly in front of or immediately behind the gas meter in the pipe network switched on, so that the gas meter can be switched on or off. exiting water gas the same must flow through. In order to give the oxidizing agent a larger effective surface, it is advantageous to the same with a suitable porous material, such as. B. Kieseiguhr and pumice stone, to mix resp. impregnating the porous material with a solution of the oxidizing agent and then to dry. The cartridge is filled with the oxidizing agent and the same is switched on into the network in the usual way.
It can be seen that in this embodiment there is a risk of the iron carbon oxide compounds being formed again in the pipeline network after previous cleaning of the gas in the central station is prevented. Gas incandescent burner, those that are fed with water gas purified in this way retain their natural luminosity and lifespan.
