KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
In patent 55375 is a method
for setting diamonds in steel, after which chips or slate tore open in the surface of the piece of steel
are then worked into the resulting gap, the bed of the stone according to shape and size, the stone is placed in it
and then the gap with heating of the steel piece by lateral pressure so far
is closed again so that it holds the diamond tight. The firm connection of the chips
between each other and with the piece of steel is then made by soldering with copper,
whereupon the piece of steel is worked off from one side with a file or chisel so far,
until a point of the stone emerges.
The present invention seeks to perfect this method in two ways. First of all, the above-mentioned older method has the disadvantage that the soldering used by means of copper has only a relatively short durability. To therefore a soldering means easily fusible BEZW. To avoid less durable metals, in the present process the gap α (Fig. 1), in which the diamond c lies in the incorporated bed d, is compressed so strongly after the steel piece b has been heated to a blaze by pressing down the punch f that it becomes the gap closes completely again and tightly welds together under the influence of the previously introduced tail powder (Fig. 2). When the steel piece b , which is in the heat of the tail, is pressed together, the finished steel form is punched out by the descending punch f in conjunction with the die e, so that the resulting piece of steel, shown in FIG Die-cut printing appears almost ready for use. The formerly necessary working off of the steel by means of a file and chisel according to the older method is hereby made almost completely superfluous.
The method described results in a fastening that is solid and durable in every respect
reached the diamond on the piece of steel and also offered the opportunity to do the same
to use a hard steel from the start, so that subsequent hardening,
which would loosen the fastening of the diamond again becomes superfluous.
