Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
The subject of the present invention is an innovation in drift tankers, which have the purpose of ships that are deprived of control, or undamaged ships to keep the bow at sea during storms and so on.
It is well known that rudderless ships always lay themselves across the sea and thereby run the risk of to be broken apart or capsized in the breaking lakes. As experience shows that the biggest storm does not stir the sea deeper than about 15m, but below this depth there is calm water, which is drawn by the upper current and Wave movement remains unaffected, so it is well known that a drift anchor is thrown at approx. 20 bis 25 m depth and holds it by means of a buoy at this depth. That on the moving The wind-chased ship pulls the drift anchor, which is also the drag anchor behind you, with the screen offering strong resistance and keeps the ship at sea with the bow. All of these drift or drag anchors that have been common since then now have the great disadvantage that they have completely closed screens, as a result of which especially with violent movement of the ship or with sharp changes in speed of the same the screen and anchor often thrown to the side and thereby given the ship a different direction again, d. H. it is not held evenly at sea with the bow.
This deficiency is eliminated as soon as the screen has a flow opening in the middle Has. This gives the drift anchor a smoother movement, the violent side movements of the screen when the speed changes completely stop, and of course the screen still offers enough Resistance to keep the ship completely in the sea with the bow.
The construction of the new drift tanker can be seen in the accompanying drawing. An ajafklappbaren umbrella b made of iron rods α and strong canvas clamped with wire mesh, which has an annular opening c in its upper end, is connected to an iron rod d (umbrella stick). The same is made by wire ropes ef, which connect both ends of the umbrella pole d to the outer umbrella poles a. The ring-shaped opening c, through which the cane resting in the slightly resilient frame passes, but without touching the ring g surrounding the opening, allows water to flow through so that the screen is partially relieved when, for. B. If the speed of the drifting ship is too great, too great a pressure is exerted on the screen surface of the drift tanker. The drift anchor means depends wire rope or the like, i. In known manner to a buoy h \ anchor and buoy to the bow k m by wire ropes and connected η of the vessel.
Es können nun mittelst des neuen Driftankers nicht allein steuerlose Schiffe mit demWith the help of the new drift tanker, rudderless ships alone cannot use the
Bow to be kept at sea, but also such ships facing a storm going forward difficult and to whom it must be done, to be able to lie so long to the security of life and property, Until the storm and the sea have calmed down. By applying it in good time · when it becomes excessive Storm should save many ships from damage or sinking.
