Description
The invention relates to a process for producing wood pulp using the neutral sodium sulfite process and the sulfate process side by side, and in particular an improvement in one Process by which the desired sulphidity in the final sulphate fresh liquor is achieved without that the usual combustion of sulfur and the addition of crude sodium sulphate in the melting furnace is required. Instead of the last-mentioned expensive method, in the method according to the invention the desired sulfidity along with improvements in yield and texture of the pulp achieved in that a pretreated Black liquor from a neutral sodium sulphite digestion is used and in particular as a result that the acetic acid and formic acid are effectively removed from this liquor. Would these acids get into the sulphate fresh liquor, they would form sulfur-free sodium compounds and so too contribute to an undesirably low sulfidity of the fresh liquor.
According to the invention, the pretreatment of the black liquor of the neutral sulphite process consists of it Concentration to about 25 to 60% and subsequent acidification with sulfuric acid, whereby as Acetic acid and formic acid are released and their removal by suitable solvent extraction, z. B. by treatment with methyl ethyl ketone or with another suitable organic solvent is made possible. At the same time, the sulfuric acid introduces the sulfur-free sodium compounds sulphurous sodium compounds over; z. B. sodium formate, sodium acetate and sodium carbonate converted into sodium sulfate. This way there will actually be a substantial increase in the Sulphidity of the black liquor of the neutral sulphite process, from which acetic acid and formic acid are removed compared to the usual value. Accordingly, after this liquor is combined with the sulphate black liquor and subsequent melting and causticizing, the sulphidity of the resulting Fresh liquor increased to 25 to 35%. This desirably high sulfur content of the fresh liquor is therefore without the otherwise necessary burning of sulfur or without the addition of raw sodium sulfate reached to the lye in the melting furnace. In addition, the formation of sodium sulphate in the sulphite black liquor results to higher sulphidities than those obtained by adding equivalent amounts of crude sodium sulphate Refresher can be obtained.

It has been found that both in terms of the economy of the process and in terms of the greatest strength and yield of pulp when processing hardwood is the neutral sodium sulphite process The sulphate process is to be preferred, while the sulphate process is used for producing cellulose from softwood deserves the privilege. The requirements of the paper industry have quickly exhausted the supply of softwood, while hardwood is available on a relatively large scale. Therefore, this situation leads to an increase in the production of hardwood pulp. Heretofore, the sodium sulfite neutral process has encountered certain difficulties and disadvantages. It was z. B. difficult to recover chemicals from black liquor for reuse in the process, so that most such factories, if not associated with a sulphate factory did not attempt to recover them.

Apart from this waste, the total or partial disposal of the waste liquor created organic substances with a high biochemical oxygen requirement contains a serious problem because of the pollution of the rivers. It is evident from this how desirable is a system that takes advantage of the otherwise wasted chemicals and calorific values and solves the wastewater problem.
In order to partially solve these difficulties, a combination of the neutral sodium sulphite process with the sulphate process has already been carried out to some extent. So far it has accordingly been customary to add the black liquor from the pulp mill, which comes from the neutral sodium sulphite process and which is hereinafter referred to as sulphite black liquor for short, or a part of it to the black liquor of the sulphate process. Crude sodium sulfate has been added to this system to provide the residual sodium and sulfur that cannot be supplied by the sulfite black liquor. This mixture was incinerated in a recovery furnace and the resulting melt was dissolved to form a sulphate green liquor. This green liquor was then causticized with lime to form fresh or white liquor for the sulphate process. Di c e principal disadvantages of the conventional method mentioned above are as follows.
The sulphate cooking process is carried out with a fresh liquor whose sulphidity is lower than desired is. This sulphidity is essential in the sulphate process because of the strength of the product and the yield will depend on the alkali to sulfur equilibrium. As from the point of view of the greatest Yield and the desired range of sulphidity in the fresh sulphate liquor for the greatest strength generally considered to be 20 to 35%. In the sulfate process, there is an inevitable loss of sodium in the sulphate black liquor when cooking pulp, in melting and causticizing; there is also an inevitable loss of sulfur, which is much higher in percentage than the loss of sodium. These losses must be made up; conventionally the sodium and sulfur losses due to the addition of crude sodium sulfate before the Melting balanced. However, the loss of "sulfur" during melting is again a percentage higher than the loss of sodium.
The difficulty in maintaining sulfidity arises from the fact that the loss of sulfur is disproportionately greater than the loss of sodium. The best practice heretofore to maintain the required sulphidity is to add both elemental sulfur and crude sodium sulphate to the sulphate black liquor prior to incineration; in this case, however, a lot of sulfur is lost in the exhaust gases as SO 2 . This way of working is therefore expensive and ineffective. As will be shown in more detail below, by means of the process according to the invention, on the other hand, the fresh sulphate liquor can be kept at a higher sulphidity level without refreshing additions of sulphate and elemental sulfur than is economically possible with the previously customary method of using sulphate and sulfur as a refreshing agent is.
The usual addition of thickened sulphite black liquor to the sulphate black liquor before incineration results in lower sulfidity than using sodium sulfate on its own refreshing chemical can be obtained.
Sodium acetate and sodium formate, which are present here, burn to sodium carbonate and require with the addition of so much sulphurous freshener to compensate for the incoming Lowering the sulfidity that the ratio of chemical to wood is above that for an efficient Work of a sulphate pulp mill is desirable ratio. By the method according to the invention this problem is eliminated.
There is a combined sulphite-sulphate process the usual procedure to reduce the from the formation of sodium carbonate and from the Sulfur loss resulting from a decrease in sulphidity in that the amount of the sulphite black liquor to be combined with the sulphate black liquor is reduced will; but this reduces the amount of sulphite pulp produced to such an extent that it usually does only 11 sulphite pulp is produced per 4 to 5 tons of sulphate pulp. The remaining chemical requirements must then covered by the addition of sulphate and sulfur. According to the invention, but this ratio so increased that 11 or more sulfite pulp every 11 sulphate pulp can be produced.
Knows under the currently known working conditions in the sulphate process and sodium sulphite process there is no practically usable combination through which the chemical requirements of a sulphate pulp mill by means of a waste product from a sodium sulfite pulp mill can be covered without the addition of other refreshing chemicals take place during the melting process.
According to a characteristic example of the method according to the invention, a sodium sulfite cooking liquor, whose active ingredients are sodium sulfite and sodium bicarbonate, in the usual way Wood chips and steam cooked under pressure. The waste liquor, which is mainly ligninsulfosaures Contains sodium, sodium acetate, sodium formate, sodium bicarbonate, waxes, tannins, resins and sugars, is concentrated. The most appropriate concentration has been found to be in the range from about 40 to 45% Solids found; However, concentrations of 25 to 60% dry matter content can also be used be used. So much sulfuric acid is added to the concentrated lye that all of the sodium acetate, Sodium formate and sodium bicarbonate converted into sodium sulfate and the ants and Acetic acid are released. Then a suitable organic solvent is added and the concentrated acidic lye to remove acetic acid, formic acid, waxes, tannins, Resins and other extractive substances extracted. The process steps of concentration, acidification and Extraction per se have already been proposed for the regeneration of sulphate waste liquor. The at Rectifying the extract obtained products can be worked up, thus reducing the cost of the raw chemicals used throughout the combined system are covered in whole or in part. That Raffinate from extraction covers all the sodium and sulfur requirements of the sulphate process, as will be shown.
Als Extraktionsmittel kann jedes Lösungsmittel oder Lösungsmittelgemisch verwendet werden, welches, soweit das praktisch möglich ist, mit der kon-. zentrierten angesäuerten Sulfitschwarzlauge keine Emulsion bildet und gleichzeitig einen hohen Verteilungskoeffizienten hinsichtlich der Extraktion von Essigsäure und Ameisensäure aus der Lauge hat und dessen binäres Azeotrop mit Wasser derart ist, daßAny solvent or solvent mixture can be used as the extraction agent, which, as far as this is practically possible, with the con-. centered acidified sulphite black liquor none Emulsion forms and at the same time a high partition coefficient with regard to the extraction of Has acetic acid and formic acid from the lye and its binary azeotrope with water is such that
Nach einem älteren Vorschlag hat sich Methyläthylketon als ein in dieser Beziehung hoch wirksames Lösungsmittel erwiesen.the solvent and water can be separated from the acids by distillation. Depending on Depending on the choice of solvent, waxes, tannins and resins can also be extracted at the same time. According to an older proposal, methyl ethyl ketone has proven to be highly effective in this regard Solvent proven.
Beispiele für solche Lösungsmittelgemische sind:Likewise, certain mixtures of solvents can, although not as effective as the solvent Methyl ethyl ketone are used to extract the organic acids from the black liquor of the sulfite process can be used as z. As described in U.S. Patent 2,744,927. Certain Solvent mixtures of lower aliphatic esters and lower aliphatic alcohols are included the extraction of organic acids from black liquor is also effective, namely: mixtures of Solvents that have unlimited water solubility, such as. B. methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, propyl alcohol, Isopropyl alcohol and tertiary butyl alcohol, with esters, which have limited solubility show how B. ethyl acetate and isopropyl acetate. Furthermore, such solvents can also be of unlimited Water solubility such as acetone can be used in admixture with the esters. Examples of such Solvent mixtures are:
90% Äthylacetat,90% ethyl acetate,
10% Äthanol.10% ethanol.
70% Isopropylacetat,70% isopropyl acetate,
30% Isopropylalkohol.30% isopropyl alcohol.
75% n-Propylacetat,75% n-propyl acetate,
25% n-Propylalkohol.25% n-propyl alcohol.
75% n-Propylacetat,75% n-propyl acetate,
25% Aceton.25% acetone.
In the sulphate process, chips from softwood are broken down under pressure in the usual way, whereby Fresh cooking liquor is used, the active ingredients of which are sodium sulphide and sodium hydroxide are. The black liquor formed in this process is removed by washing and then focused. This lye contains mainly thiolignin, sodium sulphide and acidic sodium sulphide and other minor ingredients.
According to the process according to the invention, this sulphate black liquor is mixed with the raffinate which has remained after the extraction of the sulphite black liquor in the manner described above. By removing the acetic acid and the formic acid from the sulphite black liquor before mixing it with the sulphate black liquor, a loss of sulfur in the form of H 2 S is avoided and acid corrosion is prevented during further processing.
Die so hergestellte Frischlauge hat die hohe Sulfidität von 20 bis 35 %.The resulting mixture is then further concentrated and then incinerated in the recovery furnace. The melt, which consists mainly of sodium sulfide and sodium carbonate, is used for production dissolved in a sulphate green liquor, which is then causticized with lime to form sulphate fresh liquor will. The fresh liquor produced in this way has a high sulfidity of 20 to 35%.
Due to the complete use of both the sulphite black liquor and the sulphate black liquor eliminates wastewater and pollution problems. It is also through this combined process factories that use soda and sulphite can recover the chemicals. Even Raw sodium sulphate is no longer required for Kraft pulps, as technical anhydrous soda, sodium sulphite and sulfuric acid completely supply both manufacturing plants.
Another economic advantage is that additional heat values in the form of steam the organic substance present in the raffinate of the extraction in the sodium sulfite process can be.
The process described can be used at pulp mills may be used in conjunction with any neutral sodium-based sulphite process.
Illustrative examples of the procedure according to the invention are given below.
