Description
Elektrisch halbleitender keramischer Körper Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft elektrisch halbleitende gebrannte keramische Körper, deren elektrischer Widerstand bei guten mechanischen Eigenschaften und hoher Beständigkeit gegen Oberflächenerosion beträchtlich verbessert ist.Electrically Semiconducting Ceramic Body The present invention relates to electrically semiconducting fired ceramic bodies, their electrical Resistance with good mechanical properties and high resistance to surface erosion is considerably improved.
It has been found that a new, improved electrically semiconducting fired ceramic body of considerable thickness, essentially homogeneous composition and good mechanical strength at elevated temperatures can be produced if a mixture of 55 to 85 percent by weight A1203, 1.45 is used in a known manner Subjecting to a firing treatment to 5.8 percent by weight Ca 0, 1.55 to 6.2 percent by weight Si 02, 10 to 35 percent by weight Cu20 and 0.5 to 10 percent by weight Fe203. Such a ceramic fired body has a low porosity, and its gas and liquid absorption capacity is low. It is insensitive to heat shocks, has good strength, and its electrical properties do not change even with long-term temperature loads. It is advantageous to use the Ca0 and Si02 present in the mixture as wollastonite, because in this natural mineral Ca0 and Si02 are present in approximately equal molar amounts, which has proven to be useful in the ceramic body of the invention.
Further advantages and properties are detailed below of the semiconductor according to the invention described.
The ceramic body according to the invention can advantageously be used in spark plugs use to periodically sparks in the cylinder of a piston engine or even to provide a starting spark for a turbine or jet engine. In such Applications is the electrically semiconducting ceramic body according to the invention in placed near the spark path of the spark plug and shunted with the electrodes connected to the spark path. The ceramic body of the invention is an improvement compared to the known ceramic bodies insofar as its strength, its low porosity, its mechanical stability at elevated temperatures Resistance to erosion and its properties as an electrical conductor are more advantageous are. In addition, the ceramic bodies according to the invention can always be uniform and produce them with consistent properties.
The composition of the ceramic body according to the invention is made essentially from a mixture of copper oxide (Cu20), iron oxide (Fe203), aluminum oxide (A1203), calcium oxide (Ca0) and silicon oxide (Si02). The ceramic body is through Pressing one; such mixture produced under pressure and firing, being a dense ceramic body is created.
A mixture of ceramic material was used to form the above Composition A produced. Cu20 and Fe203 were chemically pure substances while commercial products were used for A1203 and wollastonite. The raw material was dried until the moisture content was less than 0.2 "/".
The ceramic raw materials were made using porcelain balls or the like was crushed in a vibratory porcelain mill and obtained as follows Additions: A non-volatile, solid polyethylene glycol as a wax binder in one Amount of about 8 ", l" of the total weight of the ceramic lot; a tri-substituted one Phenol as an antioxidant rust preventive in an amount of about 0.5 "/" of the total weight the amount of ceramics; a sodium phosphate compound as a deflocculant in one Amount of about 0.5 "/" - the total weight of the ceramic amount and distilled water in an amount about 66.6 "/" of the total weight of the ceramic amount.
The mixture thus formed was milled for 4 hours and the milled amount poured through a sieve into a clean pan to remove the grinding media. The resulting mass was then dried in an oven at about 110 ° C. until dry cracks formed on the surface of the material (about 15 hours). The mass was then broken and drying continued until the moisture content was less than 10/0 . Excessive drying of the mass must be avoided in order to prevent destruction of the wax binder.
The mass was then passed through a sieve of 20 Meshes j e mm 2 granulated. To lower the moisture content below 0.25 "/", the granules were again placed in an oven at a temperature of about 110 ° C used and dried again for an appropriate time.
The sample so treated was then. with 350 kg / cm2 in a suitable Form pressed dry.
The pressed parts were slowed in a gas fired kiln Fired to a temperature between 1300 and 1375 ° C. The Heating of the furnace controlled so that the CO. Content of the flue gases at a temperature of about 1100 ° C was 10 to 13a / ".
The modulus of rupture of the ceramic body was determined by applying a steadily increasing pressure to the body until it cracked or ruptured and by calculating the modulus according to the following formula where P = load in kg, L = span of the ceramic body in cm, b = width of the ceramic body in cm, d = depth of the ceramic body in cm.
All bodies A, B, C and D were very dense and had practically none Porosity. An ink drop applied to the surface of the bodies remained there, practically without being absorbed. Because the porosity of the ceramic body is negligible, was found when used with shunt spark plugs decreased fuel absorption, and also the uptake of combustion products was leaning forward. Also, the bodies are like the high pressure modulus values show mechanically solid. Mechanically strong materials are when used as a Shunt body of a spark plug but absolutely necessary so that the workpiece the wear and tear during assembly and operation, such as B. spark erosion and the like, can successfully withstand. Furthermore, the sensitivity is also one Material against thermal shock directly dependent on its modulus of rupture, provided that that the coefficient of thermal conductivity of the material is high, what for the ceramic body according to of the invention applies.
The ceramic body according to the invention have in comparison to the known electrically semiconducting ceramic bodies have numerous advantages over the known, made essentially from a mixture of A1203 and SiC semiconducting bodies, for example, a greatly increased mechanical strength and have reduced porosity. Furthermore, the bodies of the invention provide with In terms of electrical resistance, when used in shunt, it is more desirable Properties as A1204 SiC body.
