Description
Process for producing enamel coatings on metal objects Enamel coatings on metal objects can be done in two different ways produce. The one process in which the enamel is ground wet to a slip, applied in this form by dipping or spraying onto the metal objects and is melted after the application has dried, is generally referred to as Wet method, while the other method in which the enamel glaze is dry-ground and powdered onto the heated metal objects, under the designation "Powder process" is known.
The powder process has several advantages over the wet process. The enamel coatings produced by this process have a much better one Gloss and a smoother surface than those made by the wet process. An advantage of the powder process is also that mill additives are used in the grinding the enamel frit come in discontinuation. As a result, z. B. the addition of Clay, which is indispensable when wet grinding the enamel frit for the purpose of wet application and usually has a detrimental effect on the quality of the enamel coating. The higher The additional tone is, the worse the gloss of an enamel becomes, as is well known. Even chemical resistance is reduced by clay, and an undesirable one often forms Cloudiness that occurs with many emails, e.g. B. majolica, is particularly troublesome. The advantages However, the powder process also has serious disadvantages. When executing of the powdering process, the metal object must be heated to about 800 to 900 degrees before powdering C if the powder is to adhere. The powder is therefore immediate applied to the heated object next to the oven. This has the disadvantage that the powdering process is spatially bound to the oven. It still requires one certain inconvenience when using the method and also has the disadvantage that the performers are exposed to severe heat nuisance.
Because of its disadvantages described above, the powdering process has despite its recognized merits more and more lost in importance and is currently almost only used for enamelling bathtubs. Occasionally, too Majolica stoves enamelled using the powder process.
There has been no lack of attempts, the wet process and the powder process unite with each other and in this way benefit from the advantages of both processes To make use of it. A well-known suggestion of this type is to start with a Apply wet application to the objects to be enamelled and then in them Wet application a dry-milled enamel matched to the melting point of the wet enamel Powder enamel, after which the application is burned in the usual way after drying will. In this way, the powdering process is spatially independent of the oven and can at any point in the enamelling plant, for example directly at the spray booth be made. However, the process did not succeed because it doesn't work safely enough. If it is not carried out with the greatest care, the enamel application tears when burning and rolls up at the tear edges. The procedure should not be in use anywhere today.
The invention is also based on the object of the powdering process and the wet process in the manufacture of enamel coatings for metal objects to unite. The invention is based on the method described above and compared to this, there is the use of an enamel powder Sieving or the like. Grain fraction between 0.05 and 1 mm produced. In execution of the invention can be proceeded in such a way that an enamel powder of a grain fraction of up to 0.05 mm e.g. B. dusted with a compressed air spray gun on the wet application will.
It has surprisingly been shown that the previous Occurring cracks when working according to the invention does not occur. from Another advantage is the possibility of using a compressed air spray gun for dry application, the use of which was previously only known for wet application.
The dry milled powder can be of the same composition be like the wet email. However, it is advantageous to use a wet enamel of a different composition than the powder. The wet email may be in execution of the procedure Be basic enamel and as such applied directly to the surface to be enamelled will. In this way, enamel coatings can be produced with just one firing. But it can also be a white or colored powder and as such on a beforehand burned-on basic enamel can be applied.
B. Majolika-Emails.The method according to the invention is suitable, since the tone opacity is eliminated, in particular for the production of transparent enamel coatings, d. H. for unclouded Emails such as B. Majolica enamels.
