BRUNO BERNHARDI in STASSFURT. Innovations in the processing of brine, which contain potassium compounds.
Patentirt im Deutschen Reiche vom 18. December 1879 ab.Patented in the German Empire on December 18, 1879.
In the previously followed methods of extracting Schönite and sulfuric acid Potash from potassium chloride + magnesia sulfuric acid, or mother liquors result from potassium chloride + schoenite which have a significant content of potash salts and which have been essentially since then have been made usable by evaporation.
Carnallit. This treatment not only causes significant losses, it also requires incidentally large, fuel consumption; also, in the main, it only enables extraction of potassium chloride or. Carnallite.
I prefer to use these mother liquors with magnesia sulfuric acid in liquid or solid form, can also be added as kieserite, either cold or with heating of the lye. As a result, double salts of sulphate of potash with sulphate of magnesia are formed, which are eliminated under suitable conditions.
Is the above treatment with sulphate of magnesia not sufficient to reduce the potash content of the lyes to press down accordingly, the same treatment can be repeated one or more times will.
The resulting final liquors are suitable for the treatment of kainite respectively. Carnallite in excellent Way, and offer when using the otherwise known methods of processing those salts have the great advantage that the residual potash contained in the final liquors is still is made usable.
As for the mother liquors described above, this process is also suitable for all potash containing brine.
Although the reaction of others used by me in the representation of Schönit resp. sulphate of potash for the first salt solutions specially prepared for this purpose or mixtures of salts have been used, the treatment is the resultant Mother liquors with sulphate of magnesia undoubtedly new and peculiar; also it is characteristic that the potash content of the mother liquors instead of potassium chlorine or Carnallite, can be made usable as sulfuric acid salt.
Finally it is of value and also new that the potash residue remaining in the final liquors, as well as the sulfuric magnesia (according to known methods) by treating these alkalis can be made usable with kainite or carnallite.
