Zur Durchleitung des elektrischen Stromes durch die Glaswand von Glühlichtbirnen verwendet man bekanntlich Platindraht trotz seines hohen Preises, weil Eisendraht beim Einschmelzen oxydiren und seine Oxydschicht eine undichte Stelle in der Birnenwand bilden würde. Nach der britischen Patentschrift Nr. 4678 vom Jahre 18g 1 ermöglicht man indefs die Verwendung von Eisendraht dadurch, dafs man ihn zunächst im Vacuum mit einer Glasschicht überzieht. Im Besonderen giebt diese britische Patentschrift an, dafs das Drahtstück in ein dünnes Glasröhrchen gebracht wird, dessen eines Ende man schliefst und dessen anderes Ende man mit einer Luftpumpe in Verbindung setzt, worauf das luftleere Röhrchen mittelst der Geblä'seflamme auf den Draht aufgeschmolzen wird. Da man zu diesem Zweck das indifferente Gas mit Hülfe eines geringen Ueberdruckes durch das Röhrchen hindurch zu leiten hat und alsdann das Ausflufsende des Röhrchens zuerst auf das eingeschobene Drahtstückchen aufschmelzen kann, erspart man das beim Evacuiren unerläfsliche Zuschmelzen des einen Endes des Röhrchens. Damit steht in Zusammenhang der weitere Vortheil, dafs man das eine Ende des Drahtstückchens aus dem Röhrchen herausragen lassen kann, so dafs es keine Glashaut erhält, die wieder abgesprengt werden lnüfste. Dies ist besonders wichtig, denn das eine Ende des Drahtstückchen trägt die zur Aufnahme des Kohlenfadens bestimmte Hülse oder Schelle, so dafs das Absprengen des Glasüberzuges (abgesehen von der Gefahr, auch den mittleren Theil dieses Ueberzuges zu verletzen) sehr umständlich sein würde, wenn man nicht die wohl noch gröfsere Schwierigkeit in den Kauf nehmen will, die Hülse erst nach dem Verglasen an dem wieder entblöfsten Ende des Drahtstückchens zu bilden.According to the new invention to be explained here, the glazing process is very easy simplify if you, instead of pumping out the tube, take the air out of it through one Indifferent gas (luminous gas, hydrogen gas, carbonic acid, etc.) displaced.
