Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
The purpose of the present process is to supply liquid air and evaporate it. Allowing the air to flow out into the mine workings to cool down the mine air temperature, to convert "dull weather" into "good weather" and to render local accumulations of firedamp harmless.
This threefold purpose is achieved by harnessing the three main properties the liquid air, namely during evaporation, d. H. on the transition from the liquid to the gaseous state of aggregation to bind a large amount of heat from the environment, thus to produce cold, to expand its volume to a thousandfold and that in proportion to release oxygen content richer than atmospheric air into the surrounding air.
As far as the cooling of the pit air temperature is concerned, it suffices to point out that liquid air, through its evaporation and heating up to 20 ° G, is able to withdraw about 120 calories from the environment, i.e. about 30 cbm of normal pit air of 20 0 C. to cool down to 10 ° C.
The conversion "dull weather", ie one abnormal composite, especially of C O 2 rich and poor in O air batch in "good weather", ie weather from the approximate composition of the atmosphere, with a sufficient for the Athmungs- and Verbrennungsprocefs oxygen content, will take place in a short time not only as a result of the direct supply of a quantity of air which is fresh in itself, caused by the discharge of liquid air, but also as a result of the release of the incomparably richer quantity of oxygen contained in this quantity of air, since liquid air is more difficult to liquefy of nitrogen contains about twice as much oxygen as atmospheric air.
Reaching the third point - rendering firedamp accumulations harmless - this is done by diluting the gas mixture flowing out as a result of the increased air supply, but the other time especially because of the simultaneous air supply achieved cooling and volume reduction of the same.
Practical tests and experience have taught how quickly the intensity of the explosion and the explosiveness of explosive gas mixtures with the advancing degree of Cooling of the latter decreases.
Of all the proposals and tools that have become known so far to achieve the The purposes given at the beginning can be used here to assess the particular peculiar advantages of the proposed method only the use and distribution of "compressed air" can be used for comparison in the mine workings.
It is clear, however, that "compressed air", even of the highest tension, always has the maintains normal composition of the atmospheric air from which it was extracted, does not supply excess oxygen to the mines, which is unequal to oxygen richer "liquid air" easily does so when it flows out and evaporates.
Then in the compressed air pipelines the friction respectively. Voltage losses like that great, that in extensive mine structures at the distant operating points by the outflow the compressed air and the thermal binding that occurs at the same time as a result of the stress reduction never the pit air can only be cooled approximately as effectively as it is with the outflow of liquid air would be the case if they were piped in the same way fed to the operating points. Moreover, in the latter case there would be a loss of temperature inside the pipeline along the entire path to be traversed Lowering the temperature of the pit air surrounding the pipeline is a good thing come.
