Abstract
The tower (3) has a turntable at the top carrying an adapter or fairing (2) holding a streamlined generator room shaped as a prolate spheroid. The streamlined generator room and the fairing joining it to the top of the tower occupy a smaller volume than the previous rectangular housing (1,7) for the generator. A shaft (4) holding a hub (5) for the windmill blades (6) extends from one end of the prolate spheroid. The prolate spheroid and adapter have a framework (8) holding the machinery. The prolate spheroid and adapter are made of a fiber- reinforced material and are covered with cladding panels.
