Description
Process for the gradual hydrolysis of cellulosic plant substances with hydrochloric acid The invention relates to the saccharification of vegetable substances by hydrolysis with hydrochloric acid for the purpose of obtaining glucose and other types of sugar, in particular on processes in which the cellulose-containing material initially has a Is subjected to pre-hydrolysis and the solid residue then with highly concentrated, about 40% hydrochloric acid is hydrolyzed and the hydrolyzate, after evaporation, post-hydrolysis the polymer sugar, deacidification and desalination is brought to crystallization. This two-stage process has so far been carried out in such a way that the prehydrolysis with very dilute, about 1% hydrochloric acid at high temperature (at about 130 ° C) was made and the residue then in the manner described above hydrolyzed with more than 40% hydrochloric acid and the hydrolyzate is further processed became.
There is also already a fractional saccharification process of plant substances with a high concentration of pentosan, which consists in the fact that one first mainly the pentosans with a hydrochloric acid of moderate concentration, the contains about 25 to 38 percent by weight of H Cl, depending on the type of starting material ordinary temperature brings into solution and after removing the solution the residues further unlocks with highly concentrated hydrochloric acid.
The task was now set to apply saccharification of wood of fine-grained wood, especially sawdust, to be carried out technically successfully, what was previously not possible.
According to the present invention, this is technical and economical important object has been achieved in that the fine material to be applied, such. B. Sawdust, initially subjected to a known pre-hydrolysis with hydrochloric acid is, but with the proviso that this prehydrolysis is carried out under conditions in which the wood is practically completely freed from hemicelluloses and the residue then the main hydrolysis with highly concentrated, z. B. 40 to 41% H Cl is subjected. The liberation of hemicelluloses from wood flour is carried out according to the invention in such a way that the prehydrolysis with ordinary Temperature (room temperature) with a hydrochloric acid of a certain concentration, namely from about 34 to 37% HCl is completed. If these conditions are observed Surprisingly, the disruptive grain disintegration does not occur at all. As a result is the subsequent main hydrolysis, avoiding displacement difficulties can be carried out without interference and with good results. This result was not to be expected according to the prevailing views. So far, the Hemicelluloses are viewed as binders for the wood components, lignin and cellulose. However, these binders (the hemicelluloses) are used in the prehydrolysis according to the invention Dissolved with 34 to 37% hydrochloric acid in the cold as well as when it was carried out the known pre-hydrolysis with dilute, about 10% hydrochloric acid at high temperature. It was consequently in no way to be expected that when carrying out the invention Prehydrolysis with concentrated hydrochloric acid in the cold the previously existing, above explained difficulties would be resolved properly. Essential for the However, the use of hydrochloric acid in the above has been very successful narrow concentration range from 34 to 37 ° / a. As has been established, at Use of a hydrochloric acid, the concentration of which is only a little over 37%, the cellulose completely dissolved, while when applying a hydrochloric acid, which is a little lower Concentration than 34 ° / a possesses, only a low, practically inadequate Part of hemicellulose is leached out.
In the case of the known in the introduction explained in second place Process for the saccharification of plant substances with a high concentration of pentosan is the starting material in the pre-hydrolysis with a hydrochloric acid suitable for dissolving out the pentosans treated, the concentration of which depends on the nature of the raw material used is between about 25 and 38 weight percent H Cl. This was by no means closed infer that fine material, such as wood flour, can be successfully saccharified, if the prehydrolysis is carried out at room temperature using hydrochloric acid, whose concentration must be in the narrow range of about 34 to 37 0 / a H Cl.
For an effective, practically sufficient pre-hydrolysis, a leaching out of about 22 to 260 /, hemicellulose is necessary. This result was only achieved in test series 3 and 4, in which 35.6% and 37.1% HCl, respectively, were used.
In test series 2, when a 32.3% HCl was used, no more than about 14% hemicellulose dissolved out.
In test series 5 with 38.4 0/0 H Cl, about 68 0/0 sugars went into Solution. So there is no differentiation between the hydrolytic cleavage of the Hemicelluloses and cellulose are possible with this hydrochloric acid concentration.
Tests were also carried out in which, on the one hand, the known processes using pre-hydrolysis with highly diluted (10/0) Hydrochloric acid was carried out in the heat, while on the other hand the prehydrolysis according to the present invention using a hydrochloric acid with an H Cl content from 34 to 37 0/0 was carried out at room temperature and the grain size of the wood material was established before and after the trial.
In experiment A (according to the known method), softwood sawdust was used in a tower in the usual way with 10/0 hydrochloric acid at 130 ° C. for 3 hours hydrolyzed. This was followed by washing and drying. The pre-sugar solution thus obtained was filtered, deacidified using an ion exchanger and evaporated to a syrup, which was a dark brown, unsightly, bitter-tasting liquid.
The pre-sugar solution obtained by the pre-hydrolysis with 35% hydrochloric acid after evaporation in a vacuum, deacidification and purification resulted in a sweet-tasting, light lemon-yellow clear sugar syrup, which compared to the one when tried A obtained dark brown, bitter-tasting sugar syrup made a difference.
For the practice of the present invention in technical Scale has proven to be advantageous to use an apparatus that is described in the prior patent 927 139 is described. Carrying out the procedure with This apparatus can be used analogously to the working method described in the above patent take place.
The process is particularly suitable for processing softwood in finely divided form; but it can also be used with advantage on other woods, e.g. B. Hardwood, as can be applied to other cellulosic vegetable substances.
