Description
The invention relates to a method for surface mounting a sensor device having a sensor element on a circuit board, wherein the sensor device is arranged on a surface of the circuit board.
Methods for surface mounting of sensor devices, for example as components of detection devices or higher-level control devices, are generally known, particularly in the automotive sector. For this purpose, it is necessary to mount a sensor element of the sensor device on the circuit board so that the sensor element can fulfill its detection task in the mounted position or in a mounted state. In particular, sensor elements can be used as a sensor element, which can detect a specific detection variable and must be arranged at a defined distance or distance range from the area to be detected or the element to be detected in which or from which the detection variable is to be detected. If the sensor element is designed, for example, as a temperature sensor or as a current sensor, it is necessary to arrange the sensor element at a defined distance from the area or element to be detected.
It is also known here that an arrangement that deviates from the defined arrangement, in which the sensor element is in particular arranged too far away from the area or the element on which or from which the detection variable is to be detected, can cause an impairment of the detection result . Since the selection of a specific sensor element is often dictated by certain boundary conditions, for example due to the characteristic properties of the specific sensor element, it is not easily possible to replace the sensor element with another sensor element, for example with a different detection range or a different design. Depending on the installation space, a different arrangement of the sensor element is also not possible, since the detection range of the sensor element is limited, for example, to fractions of a millimeter or the sensor element must be placed precisely in such an arrangement area. In addition, the surface mounting of the sensor element or the sensor device should be carried out as simply and cost-effectively as possible.
The invention is based on the object of specifying an improved method for surface mounting a sensor device.
The task is solved by a method with the features of claim 1. Advantageous refinements are the subject of the subclaims.
As described, the invention relates to a method for surface mounting a sensor device on a circuit board, wherein the sensor device is arranged on the surface of the circuit board. The sensor device has at least one sensor element which is designed to detect a detection variable, for example a current or a temperature. The invention is based on the knowledge that the sensor device has a base element with a defined height, which is arranged between the sensor element and the circuit board, so that the sensor element is arranged on the circuit board at a distance from the surface of the circuit board by the defined height of the base element.
In other words, the invention proposes to increase the sensor element by the height of the base element, so that the sensor element can be brought into the defined measuring range or arranged there. The base element therefore has exactly the height that would be missing if the sensor element were arranged directly on the circuit board in order to optimally distance the sensor element from the area to be detected or the element to be detected. If the sensor element to be used in the sensor device is thus fixed to a specific area, the base element can be arranged between the sensor element and the circuit board, so that the sensor element can be “elevated” and thus arranged closer to its detection area. The base element can, for example, itself be or include a circuit board element. Particularly in assembly situations in which arranging another base, for example a lead frame, below the sensor element is not possible because the height to be compensated is in a comparatively small range, for example only a fraction of a millimeter, the use of the base element proposed here is advisable .
In other words, compared to the direct arrangement of the sensor element on the circuit board, the distance realized by the base element to the area or element to be detected can be set in a defined manner in order to be able to optimally detect the detection variable using the sensor element. However, the height range required for the optimal arrangement point may be too small to be able to arrange a lead frame typically used as a base and the like. Such elements are comparatively complex to introduce using selective soldering, for example.
Because the base element is arranged with a defined height, for example comprising a circuit board element, between the sensor element and the circuit board, the base element can be raised by the defined height and thus the distance between the sensor element and the area or element to be detected can be set exactly . The base element in particular meets all the requirements that must be met during surface mounting; in particular, the base element is sufficiently temperature-resistant and has corresponding solder contacts in order to be able to arrange the sensor element on the base element.
As described, the base element has a defined height, i.e. a defined extent perpendicular to the circuit board on which the base element is arranged. According to one embodiment of the method, it can be provided that the height of the base element is determined based on a distance between the sensor element and an element to be sensed in a measuring state. As described, the distance between the sensor element and the element to be detected or the area to be detected is important for the quality of the detection result. Depending on what distance the sensor element should have from the element to be detected or the area to be detected, a base element can be selected or used that has a height that corresponds exactly to the distance between the sensor element when the sensor element is mounted on the base element and the element to be sensed.
In other words, in the measuring state, that is, in a mounted state of the sensor element, exactly the distance between the sensor element and the element to be sensed that is required for a reliable measurement by the sensor element can be realized. The measurement state can therefore also be understood as the installed state or fully assembled state.
As described at the beginning, the distance between the sensor element and the element to be sensed, that is to say the increase in the arrangement position of the sensor element relative to the level of the circuit board, is often required in a range below one millimeter. The height of the base element can be between 0.25 mm and 3 mm in one embodiment of the method. In particular, the height of the base element can be between 0.5 mm and 1.5 mm. Lead frames commonly used to raise electronic or electrical components on printed circuit boards are not suitable for such an application because they usually have heights of more than 3 mm, for example 4 mm. Such a lead frame cannot therefore be used or understood as a base element in the sense of this application, since this would result in an excessive increase in the sensor element compared to the circuit board, so that such an arrangement of the sensor element would not be permitted or is not possible due to the available installation space . Instead, the base element has a lower height, which corresponds exactly to the height by which the sensor element must be arranged higher than the circuit board in order to precisely adjust the distance between the sensor element and the element to be sensed.
The base element can basically be arranged anywhere on the surface of the circuit board, i.e. between the sensor element and the circuit board. According to one embodiment, the base element can be arranged on the circuit board by soldering and/or the sensor element can be arranged on the base element by soldering. When using a solder connection between the base element and the circuit board and, if necessary, between the sensor element and the base element, the assembly process of the sensor device can in particular be carried out completely in a soldering process, in particular an SMD process. In this case, no selective soldering is required for arranging the detection device, so that the arrangement of the sensor device can be carried out as efficiently as possible, i.e. quickly and cost-effectively. For this purpose, the sensor element, the base element and the circuit board meet the requirements for processability in the SMD process.
According to a further embodiment of the method, it can be provided that the base element is arranged on the circuit board by plugging it in. As previously described, soldering may optionally be used to attach the sensor element to the base element. According to the embodiment described here, plugging can also be used instead of soldering to connect the base element and the circuit board. For example, plug-in elements, in particular pins, can be provided which connect the base element to the circuit board. The base element and the circuit board have corresponding openings into which the plug-in elements can be inserted in order to connect the base element to the circuit board by plugging. Here, for example, the sensor device can be provided as a prefabricated assembly, for example as a sensor element that is applied to the base element, for example by soldering. The sensor device as such can therefore be connected to the circuit board by plugging it in.
As described, the sensor element can basically be of any design and can be assigned to a specific detection variable or can be designed to detect a specific detection variable. The detection size can depend in particular on the distance of the element to be detected or the area to be detected or require a defined distance for the detection. The sensor element can be designed, for example, as a temperature sensor or Hall sensor or current sensor. In principle, the sensor element can therefore be of any design, with a defined distance being required for the arrangement of the sensor element for the detection of the detection variable.
According to a further embodiment of the method, it can be provided that the base element has at least one electrical connecting line which connects a contact element of the sensor element to a contact element of the circuit board. In particular, the base element has a plurality of connecting lines which correspond to the plurality of contact elements of the sensor element and connect these to a corresponding plurality of contact elements on the circuit board. In addition to the function of increasing the arrangement position of the sensor element, which is achieved by the base element, the base element can take on an “adapter function”. The electrical connecting lines of the base element can run or be arranged in such a way that they connect the contact elements of the sensor element, which correspond to the topology of the sensor element, with the contact elements of the circuit board, which have a different topology.
In other words, the base element can contribute to the unbundling of the connecting lines on the circuit board and the sensor element. Here, for example, a first contact element of the sensor element cannot be arranged in the same position, for example x position and y position, as a corresponding first contact element of the circuit board. The first connecting line, which connects the first contact element of the sensor element to the first contact element of the circuit board, can thus compensate for the different positions of the first contact elements or connect them accordingly. The connection described with regard to the first contact elements by means of the first connecting line can be transferred to any further contact elements and connecting lines. In particular, the base element has a first group of contact elements for connection to a contact element of the sensor element, which contact elements of the first group of contact elements of the base element are connected via the connecting lines to a contact element of a second group of contact elements, which second group of contact elements in turn is intended for contacting the contact elements of the circuit board.
In other words, a “layout” of the circuit board can be adapted to a “layout” of the sensor element, namely through appropriate connecting lines in the base element. The base element thus in particular has its own contact elements, with the contact elements of the base element or on the base element corresponding to the arrangement of the contact elements of the sensor element on a surface of the base element facing the sensor element and the contacts of the base element or on the surface of the base element facing the circuit board correspond to the base element of the arrangement of the contacts of the circuit board.
In addition to the method, the invention relates to a device for surface mounting a detection device, which is designed to carry out the method described above. The invention further relates to a detection device, in particular for a motor vehicle, comprising a sensor device with a sensor element and a circuit board, the sensor device being arranged on a surface of the circuit board, the sensor device having a base element with a defined height, which is between the sensor element and the Circuit board is arranged so that the sensor element is arranged on the circuit board at a distance from the circuit board by the defined height of the base element. In addition, the invention relates to a motor vehicle comprising such a detection device.
All advantages, details and features that have been described in relation to the method are fully transferable to the device, the detection device and the motor vehicle.

For assembly, the
