Description

scope of application

The present invention relates to a device which can be used in climbing. This includes an extendable handle and a multi-function head that is equipped with features that allow it to perform a number of different functions. These functions include the assembly and disassembly of various fastening elements on the so-called anchors, which are usually already firmly attached to the climbing wall.

Specifically, this device enables the assembly and disassembly of carabiners or quickdraws on the wall anchors as well as the release of climbing ropes from already placed carabiners or quickdraws.

State of the art

In the practice of rock climbing, it is common for the climber to attach quickdraws to the existing anchors on the wall while ascending the wall. The quickdraws consist of two carabiners that are connected to each other by an intermediate strap (the so-called quickdraw sling). The upper carabiner is used to attach the quickdraws to the wall anchor. The climbing rope is hooked into the lower carabiner.

The anchors are separated by a distance that can be several meters. This prevents the climber from reaching the next anchor by hand in order to securely attach the quickdraws and climbing rope.

There are currently some devices on the market that are equipped with a handle and a head that allows you to attach a quickdraw. The catch of the upper carabiner is opened and the climber uses this device to hang the carabiner in the nearest anchor on the wall. The device is then removed and the snap of the carabiner is closed.

A carabiner holder comprises a carabiner retaining portion and an extension member attachment portion. The retaining portion is configured to releasably retain a carabiner and comprises a first member positioned to engage a first side of the carabiner adjacent a carabiner gate and a second member positioned to engage a second side of the carabiner opposite the first side. The first member and the second member are positioned opposite each other and separated by a first distance at rest. The above precedents introduce features aimed at mounting the carabiner to an anchor, but do not solve other problems commonly encountered in climbing:

The technical problem that arises is the development of a device with an extendable handle and a single multifunctional head that makes it possible to solve the various requirements that may arise in connection with the attachment or detachment of carabiners or quickdraws to anchors . The climber should be able to position the carabiner in the device as well as attach or detach ropes, carabiners and quickdraws to the anchors of a wall in a quick, efficient and safe manner.

Explanation of the invention

The invented climbing device consists of a multifunctional head and a handle for holding said head. This has special design features that are aimed at solving the task described above. By using different parts of the head it is possible to perform different operations with the carabiners, quickdraws as well as climbing ropes. These are explained below.

The handle of the device has a telescopic extension to increase the overall length of the device, allowing the climber to reach further away areas with the multifunctional head.

The telescopic extension has a similar length to the handle when retracted, allowing it to be carried when retracted without impeding the user.

The handle has a thin rope for easy carrying.

The opposing surfaces of the arms hold the gate of a carabiner in the open position when inserted into the multi-function head. This feature enables one-handed operation. This is a significant advantage over those heads where the user must manipulate a holder to hold the latch in the open position. This is important considering that in most cases the climber cannot use both hands at the same time to place the carabiner in the head and manipulate an additional piece to fix the trigger in the open position.

In addition, the design of the arms to accommodate the gate ensures correct operation of the device with different sized carabiners and quickdraws.

In the device according to the invention, when the user inserts the carabiner into the multifunctional head, the arms take over the positioning and holding of the latch in the open position, thereby facilitating attachment to any wall anchor.

As soon as the carabiner is attached to the wall anchor, the device is pulled to release the carabiner from the multifunctional head and close the snap of the carabiner.

The arms of the head also allow for the attachment of a rope loop for attaching a rope to a carabiner.

The rear surface of the multifunctional head allows the snapper of a carabiner attached to a wall anchor to be opened at an angle of 120° and the carabiner to be released from said anchor by combined rotational movements of the climbing device.

Detailed description of embodiments of the invention

Like in the and can be seen, the climbing device consists of a multifunctional head (1), which is attached to a handle (2) with an angle-adjustable holder (6).

The multifunctional head (1) consists of a housing delimited by an upper surface (3), two arms (5), a rear surface (4), an adjustable angle bracket (6) and a gripping surface surrounded by a lower surface ( 7) is limited.

The carabiner is, as in shown attached to the top surface (3). The carabiner (8a) is then inserted into the anchor (9) of a wall, as in will be shown. Finally, the device is removed so that the gate (81) closes and the carabiner (8a) is attached to the anchor (9), as in you can see.

Pass rope through a quickdraw

If the climber already has a quickdraw (8) attached to an anchor (9), it is sufficient to use it in the 5a and 5b carry out the operations shown schematically in order to attach a rope (10) to the lower carabiner (8b) of this quickdraw (8).

First, two strands of a rope (10) are passed through the arms (5) of the multifunctional head (1) so that a loop is formed in the rope (10). The rope loop in the rope (10) is then tightened so that the rope loop activates the snapper (81), opens it and is thus hooked into the lower carabiner (8b). The rope strand (10) fixed to the multifunctional head (1) can now be released by moving the multifunctional head (1) downwards. This releases the rope strand (10) through the upper opening between the two arms.

Remove a quickdraw
