Abstract

Description

Background:

Humans spend almost a third of their lives asleep and this is supposed to help them regenerate, but for many it causes additional problems, especially in the area of the spine. Restrictions in mobility, as well as muscular tension and pain, are often caused by insufficiently supportive sleeping pillows.

Previously available pillows can only be adjusted minimally, if at all, to the individual needs of the sleeper. In order to reduce the resulting physical discomfort, solutions were sought to achieve this adaptability.

the US6981288B1 , DE202013004930 U1 or US2014/0317851 A1 show and describe pillows with variable thicknesses to achieve different sleeping heights. No suitable solutions are known for the adjustability of the sleeping zone width.

With a professional background in the field of physical health, a satisfactory solution for a customizable sleeping pillow was sought and a new development for sleeping pillows was aimed at, with the aim of supporting various sleeping postures in the best possible way. In addition, it should be possible to use the same pillow from childhood to old age.

Advantages of the invention:

The pillow according to the invention allows the combination of 3 optimized sleeping positions, on the back and on the sides, through:

• - Stepless adjustment of the cushion zone width to the individual anatomical conditions, and
• - The height of the cushion can be adjusted in all lying positions with the degree of hardness of the contact surface being changeable for the appropriate level of comfort.

Although some known pillows can be adjusted in height, this is not the case for all the sleeping positions described here, and the degree of hardness of the contact surface is usually not adjustable.

The innovative pillow can contain a 2-cover system with mounting mechanisms as a new development, which enables both the adjustment of the lying height and width, which can then be adjusted according to individual needs.

At least the second cover is washable and can surround the entire pillow body composite as a pillow case.

Object of the invention:

The biggest difference to the state of the art in the sleeping pillow according to the invention is the stepless adjustability of the effective pillow width, which, for example, allows the pillow to be used during continued growth in youth or takes into account restricted sleeping positions due to signs of aging.

Technical features of the invention:

A cushion according to the invention has a modular structure and consists of at least one cover and a base element with a longitudinal dimension, a transverse dimension perpendicular to the longitudinal direction and a thickness dimension perpendicular to the longitudinal and transverse directions, the maximum longitudinal dimension being greater than the maximum transverse dimension and the maximum transverse dimension is greater than the maximum thickness dimension of the base member. The base element can therefore have a prismatic basic shape with an oval, elliptical or rectangular base.

Furthermore, the modular cushion contains at least two further second elements designed as a compressible molded body and forming a cushion core with the base element in combination, the second elements being repeatedly detachably connected to the base element according to the invention. A variable overall configuration of the modular cushion can thereby be achieved.

Preferably in this modular cushion the second elements are releasably connected to the same side of the base element. This enables a one-sided three-dimensional design of the pillow.

It is also advantageous if a third element is arranged on the base element between the two second elements in the case of the modular cushion. As a result, the thickness of the cushion zone between the second elements can also be adjusted. The third element can also be repeatedly detachably connected to the base element and/or the second elements.

Manufacture of the modular cushion is simplified if the means for repeatedly releasably connecting the second elements to the base element includes a cover provided between the second elements and the base element. This coating can be part of the base element wise or completely envelop and be formed, for example, as an elastic band which extends around the base element in the longitudinal or transverse direction. Alternatively or additionally, a cover can partially or completely encase the second elements, with a band-shaped and elastic design of the cover also being possible here. Greater stability of the modular cushion is achieved if the third element is also repeatedly detachably connected to the base element and/or the second elements.

By choosing a suitable arrangement of the repeatedly detachable connection means, it can be achieved that in the modular cushion the repeatedly detachable connection between the base element and the second elements and/or the third element with any arrangement of the second elements and/or the third element on the base element is effective. The shape of the modular cushion can thus be freely designed and configured as desired.

The modular cushion has virtually unlimited durability when the means for repeatedly releasable connection include hook and loop fasteners penetrating into or cooperating with the cover of the second elements. Alternatively or additionally, means for repeatedly releasable connection can be provided as Velcro hooks on the second elements, which penetrate into the base element or interact with its cover.

The adaptability of the modular cushion is further increased if the second elements and/or the third element consist of a plurality of compressible shaped bodies. The compressible molded bodies are then advantageously formed three-dimensionally in order to achieve an increase in the stability of the molded body composite. This can be achieved by bulges or indentations, grooves, nubs or other form-fitting configurations.

Preferably the cover or covers in the modular cushion are elastically stretchable and washable. The covers can have a textile character and correspond to fabrics that are generally used as bed covers or pillowcases.
